Chapter 1: Spiders in the Forest
Neadfest 8, 1508 – Needfest 9, 1508
The call for adventure is to be answered by only the brave, the heroic, or the stupid. Such adventurers only meet these qualifications once they have proven themselves to handle what it takes to live in a cruel, dangerous, and unknown world. It is here in the Duchy of Hillburrow, within the Kingdom of Ican, that such young adventurers find themselves on their way to becoming potential heroes. Corwyn, a Wood Elf of Toadhold, finds himself an ally on his travels through Hillburrow. A traveling Bard by trade, he is met by Mara Starflower, a Half-Elf and a fellow entertainer, when they meet at a small crossroad Thorp. Lured by rumors of monsters, they both agree to travel to the eastern New Village of the Rattail Forest to investigate. The village is large, but incomplete, as buildings are either half finished or half destroyed. Once here, the two are met with two others who are on the same quest as them. Orsic, a Dwarf from the Northern Mountains of Pinces Blackdeen. His magic seems out of place based on where he is from, but he makes it work. And Nala, a Dragonborn of golden scales. Her warrior spirit is as elegant as the air around her. The settlers of New Village have been experiencing strange phenomena within the area. Their new buildings and crops are being destroyed and eaten by swarms of spiders coming from deep within the forest. In only a few months time, the harvest season will begin and if these attacks continue, there will be nothing left to harvest. The new found party take the request given to them by the Chieftain of the Village in hopes of finding the monsters that dwell within the forest. With some quick wit and fast movements, the party deals with their first wave of small spiders only to be bombarded with a second wave of large giant Wolf Spiders. These creatures were dealt with promptly however, allowing for the party to follow their trail back into the forest. Here is where they find their first real challenge. As they traveled deep into Rattail Forest, they were ambushed by a Swarm of Spiders. Near instantaneously, Nala was taken out and nearly killed by their onslaught. In disarray, it took Orsic and Corwyn’s magic to discern the spider's weakness of Tea Tree Oil in order to confuse and defeat them. With the problem dealt with, the party heads back to the Village to rest so they may continue their quest on the marrow. The first adventure is always tough, but only those who tough it out will survive. How will their journey into the forest fair next time?
