Kiel
Bustling with the noise of traders, of creaking boards of trade vessels and of the flutter of wings, Kiel overlooks the ocean as a glistening white-green jewel tossed upon the shore by the waves. The wind brings a soft, salty scent almost lost to the countless other sensations that engulf the traveller. Street merchants offer food on the markets, the name of half of them entirely unfamiliar, and every time one turns a corner, a different cacophony of languages rises. Kiel is unabashedly alive, even at nights, ready to enchant the arriving travellers.
Demographics
Kiel is mostly a city of traders, investors, bankers and the like. Some nobles who have interests or established family homes in the city also reside there. The city gives home for many different peoples, but the populace consists mostly of races native to Isha-qua.
The numbers are roughly the following: Human (25%), Avian races (25%), Orcish peoples (15%), Néigh-abal (10%), Elven (10%), other (15%).
Government
Kiel is lead by a governor who is the head of the City Council. The major decisions are made by the council that consists of members that are picked by the citizens (making up half of the council membership), three appointees of the governor, and virilists (those citizens of Kiel who pay the greatest taxes, usually wealthy merchants and bankers).
The governor is responsible for implementing the changes and decisions made by the council. They are usually the one to listen to the everyday complaints of the people - nobles and common folk alike - and they work together with the City Guard to make sure Kiel is safe.
Infrastructure
The city itself is built around the docks, as the harbour provides most of the city's traffic. Tre roads were carefully constructed, two main boulevards forming a cross at the main square, streets spanning between those as an intricate spider web, to form an easy, straightforward means of travelling by foot or by cart - not counting some smaller alleys that are too narrow for such transport.
Under the shimmering beauty of Kiel, lie the sewer systems and the undercity. Underground merchants deal in strange or forbidden goods, pickpockets tuck themselves in alcoves, and the local thieves establish their own realm in the depth even going as far as to carve new paths and tunnels for their own purposes.
Districts
The Markets include the inner parts of the city. It is usually the most active part next to the docks, including stalls at the squares and shops built into the city scape. The district is loud with bargaining, music, cries of playing children and many different dishes bubbling in pots and sizzling in pans. The area is generally considered safe as the Kiel Guard is regularly patrolling here, but it never hurts to keep a hand on one's pocket.
The Docks is also one of the less creative names the locals had given. The shipyard is loaded with trade vessels, fishing boats and the ships of some of the wealthy visitors coming into the city. It holds a cheap inn called The Rowdy Duke that is usually loud with the off-key singing of (rather nasty) sea shanties.
Gardens encompasses the noble residences, well-kept parks, hanging gardens, banks, the Kiel City Hall, and the Syronian Embassy looking over the Fountain Square. It is mostly a calm, clean and rich area.
Tidings is the area from the side of the land, where the gates of Kiel let in visitors. This is the place where news are exchanged, where people are given direction and where the guard towers keep a careful watch on the newcomers. The area is filled with small shops, taverns, and the temples of several different faiths.
