The Ulbilqui

A green-gray spire rises out from the center of Saler Thaer. Approximately 600 feet on a side, it looms at a height of one mile. The summit is a smooth, brass-colored dome that no one has ever reached. This is because the Ulbilqui is hazardous. Not only must one contend with a nearly vertical slope, but the surface is often unstable. Reports from climbers who have made it some 500 feet up contain warnings about the traps and timed protrusions that begin around that height.   The most intriguing thing about the Ulbilqui starts at around the 1,500 foot mark. For the next 800 feet or so, it is completely invisible. Observers can see how the dome at the top would connect to the spire if it were complete, but the portion just below it is gone. No one knows how one were to make it past that invisible space, and as there are no doors to be found on the surface of the spire, it is expected that the entrance would be in the dome.   Human curiosity has spurred the creation of a sport in Saler Thaer, where intrepid youths attempt to climb as much of the Ulbilqui as they can--unaided--in the hopes of bragging about their athleticism and talent.

Purpose / Function

No one knows what the purpose of the tower actually is, but many of the youth in Saler Thaer use the uneven construction and unusual, trap-like features on the surface as a method to gauge their athleticism.

Alterations

The base of the Ulbilqui serves as the foundation for many of Saler Thaer's homes, which cover much of the lower 200 feet of the spire.

Architecture

The spire has always been here, it is said in Saler Thaer. The ancestors, considering it an object of quality and godly creation, began living at its base over 800 years ago. Its gray-green metal surface is smooth through most of the spire. However, there are many portions where it is pitted or pulled away, allowing for careful climbing. It is reported by expert climbers that the further up you go, the metal begins moving and cascading, making climbing difficult for those who cannot discern the patterns and lack the ability.

History

No one knows who built the Ulbilqui, why, or when. It has always been an object of curiosity for those who live in Badiseta, so it was thought unusual when a small group of travelers decided to start a community at its feet. Over time, the community grew larger incorporated the spire into their daily lives. And though they do not worship the structure, the rumors of traps far up its surface, as well as the invisible portion of it, keep much of the Thaerans wary of it.
