Expedition
The Praxxis Royal Wedding Fleet sails to the Aluyian Capitol.
The wedding fleet consisted of six ships, each impressive on their own, but together in formation the sight of such a fleet left witnesses either in awe or terror. Drake’s own ship, the ‘Wayward Dragon’ was a moderately sized carrack nearly eighty feet in length, and eighteen across the beam. The vessel was sleek and trim, one of the fastest among the fleet. Her hull was plated to resemble the scales of a dragon, and the figurehead was that of a great dragon, reaching ahead as if to urge the ship forward. Given the occasion, her usual solid blue sails had been trimmed with white and silver, and bore the Drake’s personal crest proudly in the center of each. That crest had been yet another source of consternation for Drake’s father, who disapproved of the stylized dragon wrapped around the Praxxis family seal. The Kingship ‘Noble Cross’ bore Drake’s parents, sisters and a few other close family members. The Noble Cross was nearly three times the length of the Wayward Dragon, and more than twice the beam. A fearsome frigate, she had four broadside gun decks and a dizzying array of weapons both fore and aft. The ships guns were not to be seen today, pulled in and covered so as to convey the notion of peace. The gun doors were covered by draperies of white and blue, trimmed in gold. Her sails were likewise festooned with gold filigree surrounding the family crest. Two ships in the fleet were huge cargo vessels, not quite the size of the Noble Cross. Each carried food and gifts for the wedding celebrations to come. The final two carried the remainder of the Royal guard, as well as dignitaries and nobles invited to the wedding. Each was trimmed in similar regalia, adorned with finery to honor the new treaty and the nuptials that would soon solidify the union of the two kingdoms. All six flew in formation, The Noble Cross in the lead, followed by the Wayward Dragon. The guardships flanked them on the right and left, just behind the Noble Cross. The cargo vessels took station behind them, their bows in line with the stern of Drake’s ship. They approached the field in front of the Aluyian capital, slowly descending toward the earth in perfect unison. All at once, doors opened on either side of the great vessels, extending massive landing struts like the legs of great beasts reaching to the ground.
