The Temple of the Goddess - Aluvian Royal Palace

Architecture

The circular, bowl-like room was massive, it’s size completely beyond expectations from the outside. At the center of the room stood a massive tree, Drake guessed it would take at least six men to round it. The tree reached upward to an open roof, extending its canopy outward beyond the temple walls. The canopy shaded the room, but here and there shafts of sunlight reached down to the floors below. The low stone altar sat upon a dais that appeared to be made by the roots of the tree itself, guided to grow into a unified platform. Some of the lower branches reached the outer walls of the temple, and appeared to grow as supports for them. From many branches hung covered braziers, casting a rainbow of colors through the stained glass globes surrounding them.   To either side of the dais were small springs, framed by smooth stones and guided to short gentle waterfalls before pooling together just below and in front of the dais. Candles of all shapes and sizes were scattered up and down the length of the stone walls. Radiating out from the center was a grass covered audience floor, reaching up the sides of the ‘bowl’. The rows were barely distinguishable, but the temple chamber looked to be able to hold a hundred people or more.   The walls were a deep crimson, trimmed in gold, much as the rest of the palace. Statues of Gods and Goddesses stood at intervals along the circular wall, each tucked into a small apse with its own altar. Incense and candles burned softly, adding to the tranquil ambiance.
