Faenadell
"Behold, The greatest magical achievement: The Free City of Faenadell!" -Yaboris The Guide
Faenadell is a city that was created when Dervak, Bringer of all magic, took control of lands formally owned by Pathage and Roshar by force during the War of Devastation. The city sits close to the Geographical center of Azura, resting on the eastern side of the Everflows River. The city is the center of magical power in Azura, and thus does not offer fealty to any one specific Kingdom, remaining Independent. Faenadell is a Magiocracy, in which the ruler is the magic-user of the highest arcane magical power. High Mage Chervyth currently sits on the Throne in the Fog Castle that sits high above the city.
The city is surrounded by a large wall made of magically reinforced stone called the “Brimstone Wall”, named for the magically treated stone that is rumored to contain the tormented souls of demons bound by past High Mages of the city. It is patrolled multiple garrisons of soldiers that make up the War-Mages, who are loyal to the High Mage. These men and women take rigorous tests to join as part of the guard for the city, with a training that is rumored to take up to seven years. The guard for the “Brimstone Wall” are bound to the post until death or upon being relieved by the High Mage.

The Crystal Tower
The crystal Tower is located roughly at the center of the city, between the sand and the gold districts. It is a tower that is roughly 4 stories tall, and is the essential meeting place for the Arcanists of each district. It is essential because it is the only major area that is protected in an antimagic field, which ensures that leaders will not use anything other than normal diplomacy in meetings. The area leading into the first floor also has a protective area against items and intrusion, making it one of the most protected areas in the city, other than the Fog Castle. Incidentally, the crystal tower is also the only mundane way to get to the Fog Castle, as there are steps that lead to the entrance of the High Mage’s Keep located at the top of the structure. This ensures that only the highest priority messages and persons can reach the High Mage at his Castle. The Seven Districts of Faenadell
Faenadell is split into Seven Districts, each overseen by an Arcanist that has the highest Magical Power for the area. The districts are named as follows: The Sapphire District, The Ivory District, The Gold District, The Academy District, The Steel District, The Sand District, and the Ruby DistrictThe Steel District
This area of the city is located at the north-east section, and is filled with many accomplished smiths, craftsmen, and other artisans that work in the city. Many apprenticeship programs are located here, and groups of guilds work together to maintain the city’s resources and supplies. One of the main landmarks of the area is “The Proving Grounds”, an area relegated to the testing of skills and arts, both magical and mundane. Here, contests of strength and tenacity in the form of duels and contests are held in order to allow citizens to hone and perfect their craft. Notable Inns:The Gold District
Home to the Bazaar, this district is where most of the trade occurs between citizens, caravans, and other large marketing entities in Faenadell. Stalls and carts go for miles and stretch from the northern gate to the Sapphire District in the south. One of the largest multi-country trading businesses, Azura Traveling Company, has set up a large semi-permanent headquarters in this district, though being started in Pathage. This district is frequented at almost all times during the day, and is the second largest amassing of wealth aside from the Ruby District.Notable Inns: The Proud Bed Inn, The Glistening Dagger Tavern
The Academy District
The academy district is located at the western portion of the city, named after the magical academy, Detraxis. The academy itself was named after a fanatical follower of Dervak, who died attempting to connect various leylines of magic together in order to understand the properties of multiple schools of magic at one time. The school accepts scholars from all over Azura, and currently has over five thousand students enrolled in the city. The number of students that are affiliated from outside of the city is not recorded, as students are allowed to leave the university after being trained for a period of years. The district has many gardens and fountains, formed and shaped by magic. The district also is home to many libraries, and forms as an intellectual basis for learning for the city.Notable Inns: The Lean Moon
The Ruby District
The Ruby district is one of the smallest districts, located to the east of the Sapphire District and below the sand district. Despite its small size, it contains the highest wealth by area in the city of Faenadell. Despite not having the strongest arcanists, the district has been sectioned off by a small steel wall, and is generally cordoned off from the public. The district is home to many of the great houses of Faenadell, each having wealth from either adventuring out in Azura, or making great strides in the Academy.Notable Inns:Dark Stag Pub
The Sand District
This district is one of the largest in the city, and is marked notably by the thousands of houses that are tightly packed atop each other. This district is one of poorest areas in the city, although it is also the cheapest in living costs. Around 60% of the population live in this district, as it is close to many of the other areas of work and tradecraft found on the outskirts of the city. This district may be the largest, but it is also the most filled with crime and theft, as the buildings and population are too large for effective, normal enforcement of laws by the War-Mages.Notable Inns: The Filthy Lion Tavern, The Hungry Flies Inn, The Last Sword
The Sapphire District
This district is home to the docks and the waterfront of the city. Located to the west, the Sapphire district is based off of the Everflows river, and receives trade from city and towns that lie on the river far north, as well as neighboring countries like Roshar and Uril. Notable ships include The Stream Skimmer, The Hussar, and Nubian. This area is lively during most days, but is notably busy during Servday, as most of the sailors work through the religious day in order to keep the city full of supplies. Fish, shellfish, and other food-related trade is often conducted here.Notable Inns: Ye Olde Sail, The Foamy Skull, The Pathetic Barracuda
The Ivory District
The Ivory District is home to the Temple of Dervak, who brought magic to the folk of Azura. It is located between the Sand and Ruby District, near the Southeast area of Faenadell. Gods of almost any faith are allowed worship, as a majority of the commonly accepted pantheon have shrines in the temple. The clergy is housed in the district, with new applicants having to be accepted based on trial and fervor. This district is normally busy on Servday, as the day is commonly set aside for worshipping aspects of the pantheon and giving thanks for their never-yielding vigil. The temple itself was founded by Durin Kegbringer, a Dwarf that traveled to the city after its founding to worship Dervak in his splendor.Notable Inns: The Uneven Shield Bar
