Zultak Breeder

In the dwarven kingdom, there are expert mountain goat breeders. Unlike any other species, the Zultak mountain goats have been bred over many generations to thrive in the darkness under the mountains. Their eyesight in the dark is exceptional for their species, though they are unaccustomed to the brighter light of the sun. The breed tends to be leaner, more lightfooted, and have darker coats and horns than their surface-dwelling counterparts, making it easier to hide from hostile creatures that dwell in the mountains. These goats are especially sensitive to vibrations in the earth, sometimes able to sense things like the direction, distance, and size of potential predators. Their light-footedness is also ideal for traversing the shaky, underground chasms and precipices found under the mountains. Cliffs that may crumble under the weight of heavier climbers, Zultak goats seem to daintily traverse with ease; instinctually knowing where and how to step so that the integrity of their path remains structurally sound.
In addition to their natural qualities that make these goats suitable for underground living, they go through rigorous training starting from day one. They are introduced and bonded to their future masters from a young age, and will not heed the commands of any other riders whom their master doesn't permit. In addition to training the beasts, the breeders of these complex goats also work with their future masters and teach them key phrases used in the training of their companions. These goats are exceptionally intelligent and learn a wide range of commands (in Dwarvish). By honing in on the goats' natural tremor-sense, they are also taught to be an early warning system for potential threats. The dwarves who breed and train them refuse to share their trade secrets - even with others of their kin - making these some of the most exclusive and rare domesticated livestock on the continent.
