Azípha

Welcome to Azípha, an island continent ringed with civilization on cragged coastline, wild and untamed at its center. The histories tell of a world locked in an endless power struggle between 3 mighty and ancient kingdoms. But the stories of politics, power, and war, now lie dormant in the collective memories of the people. Any trace of this history is relegated to ancient scrolls and carvings in the libraries. Because for generations, for as long as anyone alive can remember, the kingdoms have been at peace. And for as long as there has been peace, the arcane energies in the realm have all but vanished, and contact with the gods has been nearly severed.   The loss of magic and divine presence did not come without consequence however. In the absence of the arcane and divine energies, a void of power formed, out of which a wicked beast was borne of the deep – a leviathan so monstrous the ocean itself seemed to bend to its will. The sea became a prison, locking in the people of Azipha onto the land, cutting them off from the rest of the world.. For years the leviathan terrorized the seas – anyone who did venture into blue waters met a violent watery grave.   While it’s port cities and sailings ships slowly crumbled and rotted away, the inland cities of Azípha flourished and grew. But eventually, a new call arose to reclaim the seas as a means of economic prosperity and revitalization of the coasts to their former glory. So the council of Kings made a resolution. From the far corners of the realm, they summoned shipwrights, craftsmen, mages, rangers, and fighters. Entire forests were felled to build a fleet of ships unrivaled by any previously seen on Azípha, with the sole purpose to dispatch the beast back to the deep where it came from.   The fleet sailed off bravely, to an uncertain fate. A harrowing fight ensued, one that tested the metal of every sailor and fighter aboard. It raged for days on end until at last, the beast was defeated. When the waves settled and the chaos subdued, the sea foamed red with the blood of the leviathan. Thousands bodies floated on the water amongst the splintered ruin of the fleet. They called it the Battle of the Broken Boats and each year, the battle is commemorated throughout the kingdoms with reenactments of the heroism, delectable treats, and rowdy celebration.
