"This is the location which Empress Amethyst Westrel detonated an Atomic Weapon directly atop the Kruu Horde. In a few minutes, a horde of over 100,000 Kruud was reduced to less than 40,000. The lingering radiation sickness resulting in undead to attack. Between the reanimated victims and famine, another five thousand perished before they made a permanent camp hidden in the Everwoods. Still unconvinced that the Kruud threat was dealt with, Amethyst Westrel sent Fang Company to pursue the Kruu Horde and destroy them to a man. I have read the accounts of the pursuit from Fang Company members who took on the mission. They describe mountains of burned charred bodies, the ground sent up radioactive heat waves which made everything in the area sick, and the undead would crawl out of ash piles to devour the living. However, the most dreadful story I read was a pit of shadows where the spirits of those obliterated by the blast were not spared an undead. Within the pit, living in the shadows, are the screaming spirits of those killed. What does this mean about the souls of those who died in the blast? Are they happily in their after-worlds? Or, as I fear might be the case, are they trapped as those vengeful spirits in the pit or trapped inside the rotted form of a zombie?" - from the journals of Old Jass
