Faes

In their youth, these whimsical beings can often be found wandering the world in search of entertainment. Older faes tend to be more settled, but still seek out means on which to spend their potentially infinite lifespan.
Unlike the structured harnessing of humans, Faes generally make use of magic in the way a child might scrawl with pencils. Lighthearted, charming, at times beautiful, but ultimately unsophisticated and inconsequential.
They are immortal in the sense that they only perish by unnatural means. However, such occurrences are not uncommon amongst this airheaded lot, and further faes take their own lives due to various reasons. They do not grieve these tragedies, however, as many faes believe in reincarnation through the Ley. This belief dictates that those who die will be transformed into magical energy and infused into the land.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Faes are easily distinguished by their variety of insectoid wings and coloured sclerae. They are typically thin and small in stature.
Their wings are functional, allowing the species to glide and lift themselves into the air. However, their abilities become severely impaired if having to carry an additional load.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Faes are known for their ability to consume just about anything. Though, it is less an ability and more a willingness to try all things out of boredom. Perhaps this practice influenced evolutionary development, leading to an increased constitution in the species, but we will never know.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Many faes subscribe to the tradition of asking each person they know for a name. This is done mostly for entertainment but can also be an expression of affection and closeness. Unsurprisingly, this leads to rather comical introductions, and few faes actually end up remembering every one of their titles (though there are many who would try).

Major Organizations

The extended lifespan and freeform nature of faes make them less suited for structured factions. In current times, the only political representative their kind bear is The Sillian Council, as well as the loosely-organised caretakers of Emyryll - the ley tree claimed as a cultural landmark.
