Adventurers

In a land so unknown and perilous, the concept and role of adventurers have grown to be a significant part of Avenia's culture.
By loose definition, there are two types of adventurers. Some are wanderers who offer their services to others; often those in small, disadvantaged settlements. Alternatively, they may be explorers or thrill-seekers looking to see new lands and make a living by fighting monsters and looting ruins. These motivations can overlap, and both types are typically capable survivalists and/or warriors equipped to deal with the dangerous and unpredictable.
Most adventurers, whether they be thrill-seeking or compassionate, will spend their time exploring The Ashlands and the territory of the Old World. This is where they will find people most in need of their services or ruins and monsters to loot.

Career

Payment & Reimbursement

Each adventurer determines their own payment for a job. Some don't ask for any, others will take simple coin, and yet more might prefer less physical payments. As such an informal profession, the rates and quality of adventuring services will vary greatly.

Perception

Purpose

Adventurers serve as mercernaries, generally, but those with specific talents such as medical knowledge or architecture may offer up such things as well. Overall, adventurers serve as a potentially cheaper and more accessible source of aid for people in otherwise neglected areas.
At times, adventurers may be recruited by larger organisations as militia or for other general services.

Social Status

Some in the field are seen as heroes for their feats, but the average adventurer is not overly famed. Views vary from person to person, with some seeing adventuring as a glorious profession and others viewing it as foolish.

Demographics

Perhaps unsurprisingly, many adventurers are human; attracted by the perceived glory of the occupation, they trot off to seek wealth and fame. However, adventurers come in all shapes and sizes, providing everything from healthcare to military support.
