The Elmar were a once great civilization that grew beyond their ambition, resulting in a complete collapse of their society. The decedents, called the Elmari, are hangers-on to their glory. They live on the remnants of their once greatness, content to simply immerse themselves in long dead cities and to feed off the remaining magical conveniences of their ancestors. The Elmari are slaves to tradition, having surrendered their future for the safety of the past.
Appearance
Body
The Elmari are tall, thin, humanoids. Their slender frame is almost completely devoid of extraneous muscle, lending to a gaunt, sickly thinness. This form they cover with elegantly tailored robes to give a lithe but full appearance. Elmari have delicate hands with 8 fingers on each side, with two sets of opposable digits. Their skin is a mottled light bluish grey given to patches of darker blue. Their thin skin is like onion paper, allowing an observer to see the blood pumping through veins just under the surface of the skin.
Face
Elmari have delicate facial features, high cheek bones, thin noses, and large expressive eyes. Their eyes are multi ringed, providing an iris, outer and inner iris of different colors. The colors of an Elmari’s eyes denote their ancestral house. Ears are long and pointed. The tips of an Elmari’s ears can be a barometer of mood as the collection of blood vessels are highly visible give off different color depending on how hot the blood is.
Organization
Elmari live in relative isolation amongst the huge cities of their past selves. Ten thousand Elmari may live in a city build for millions. An Elmar City is automated with protective measures to defend and supply itself and the Elmari, leaving the Lost Children to wander it in pursuit of forgotten knowledge.
Technology
While the Elmar were master builders, engineers, architects, and craftsman, the Elmari have only studied these arts. They have little interest in the practical application of their knowledge. Elmari have access to the vast collection of devices, tools, weapons, cities of their forefathers. They know all there was to know about their use. What the Elmari lack in practical skills they make up for in intellectual pursuits. Arcane knowledge, lore, history are their lifeblood. They spend their lives in their empty cities studying the vaults of knowledge left to them as their inheritance from their greater generations.
Magic
Magic, called Flow by the Elmar, is the one true output of the collective Elmari society. The Elmari are masters of Flow, or the weaving of different magical domains into a result. The working of magic in Greenhallow is dangerous as it must draw on the primal natural powers of the planet. Elmari have developed magics even beyond the skills of their lofty forefathers, though one Flowwork of such magnitude would the the lives work of one Elmari.
Literacy
The Elmar have written in a complex linguistic form that uses 4th order conjugation. To the Elmari, this hints at possible time manipulation as possible within their lifetime, something that no Elmari have learned yet from the Elmar Pages.
