3.11 - We didn't Start the Fire Report
General Summary
We open our scene in Aces High where the Bad Ideas have captured Harold Aces 3rd. But the party's attention is instead on the mirror remote-viewing on The Troubador and Eldrick. Eldrick had ported earlier into the flaming building to save the Mouseingtons and was now attempting to save Mr K, who had taking a few dozen drugged darts in the fight. But the giant Kobold Middle Manager was just too big to drag by himself. Tol offered to help, jumping through the portal and into the fire.
While the two of them were able to move him some, there still wasn't enough strength to drag the monster. Zizkek jumped in after to use magic to cut a path with wind. Liam and Fae came next, along with Harold. By this time the fire was almost completely filling the bar. Liam tried to help pull the monster but couldn't and the fames surrounded him. He couldn't see to the door to use his magic teleport through all the smoke. Pretty soon, he would be on fire. Eeilith came next with a gale force wind around here, giving the group one last opportunity to try to drag K free. But it wasn't enough and Fae dragged Harold with her into the blaze to save Liam. Her tiefling heritage helping her resist the flames. She dragged liam to safety as Eilith moved to the doorway too, both taking fire damage. At this moment the Troubador was lost to the inferno and Liam walked away, followed by his friends.
In the Halfling bar of The Angry Goose, the party regrouped under Tol's protective magics. Many drinks were had and tales were told of the past and the present.
We learned that Tol was a slave to debt, having learned everything he knows of magic from his master's books. We also learned that Tol has been working on new magical formula in his books of smut, and we saw him successfully use one on Fae to his surprise and delight.
We learned that Eldrick once did battle with a two headed giant named Two James. To this day he hates Giants to his core.
We learned that AALan comes from a land of protective domes surrounded by a burned out ecosystem. That mutation and radiation gathered in him until he was called an Angel and decided to leave.
We learned that Fae was sent here to find an artifact by her queen.
We learned that Zizkek doesn't remember anything after his arrival at the Troubadour, except when he does.
We learned that Elith was adopted by two mages of the Invisible Hand here on Talus, and that she is following in their footsteps as a legacy.
We learned important things about Liam but the DM was too drunk at the point to now fully remember them. Something about a slave and a medic. Look, someone made me do shots so I blame them.
In the end the Bad Ideas sleep it off in the rooms above the halfling tavern, a well earned rest and respite before the terrible trials ahead because tomorrow is a New Day.
Notes
I'm a fan of Storycraft Theory. This is the study of the crafting of stories that people tell, and retell over the ages. Its from where we get the Three Act Arc idea. Shakespeare is often studies as a predictable follower of Storycraft Theory.
It is believed that the best stories throughout history have had a narrative sine wave whereby a triumphant end can only precede a tragic fall. This is the redemptive path that most myths of heroes follow where the farther the fall, the greater the glory of the eventual redemption. In fact stories that can find new lows in just how far down they can push their heroes in their fall reach the greatest of heights in that final third arc.
And so, to do justice to our narrative and gives the most climatic outcome, we must ask ourselves... Are we at the bottom of the fall for our characters? Is this as bad as it can get for them? Have we reached the worst that can possibly occur? We shall see. We shall see....
