1.09 - The Informant
General Summary
The group spent most of its time in the House of Madam Kaethea, a brothel managed by a shapechanger named Ophelia. The purpose of the visit was to meet up witn an informant on the Pale Dogs hideout, setup by the Longfingers. This setup was a bit of a gift for the players as an unaware Lanza arrived at the bar for the meet. Lanza was the head of the crew that dug up the chest in the Troubadour in the beginning of the adventure.
Dockshay made friends with Lanza through Suggestion and a long game of questions and answers followed. Here are the highlights
Neckbreaker is in The Den. He isn’t coming out and so you’ll have to go in after him
The Den is three floors from the surface down.
First floor is petty crimes, gambling, loans, forgery, pawnshop, etc.
The second floor is Drugs and serious crimes.
The Third floor is the actual den where Neckbreaker hangs out with Rex, one of the Top Dogs.
The Pale Dogs have been flush with outside recruitment lately, pushing out the established members for ‘cheaper labor’ from elsewhere. This has made the older members of the gang angry.
Lanza knows that he was hired through Pale Dogs by a Lineman Carr, a go between for various powerful houses and organizations including the Balacazars. Lineman Carr has a compound in the Rivergate District
Neckbreaker has enemies in the Killravens, a rival gang that focuses on gambling and entertainment. They have a Casino called the Pleasure Dome in the South Market district.
They also talked with Mr Samuels from Longfinger and got the following information
There is a second entrance to The Den from the Sewers. The Pale Dogs use it to run drugs.
The roof is watched and dangerous, be careful
With this information and with Sir Tomlin in tow, they head to The Den. Liam and Delander take point entering the establishment, claiming that they were guests of Rex. This angers the guard but they are let in. Inside, they say that additional friends of Rex are on their way to gamble, which sets off the guard further. He seems fed up with ‘Friends of Rex’ showing up and taking their jobs, so he stages a walk-out and takes all the human guards with him (including the crossbowman on the roof). This leaves the first two rooms unguarded. The group decides this is the opportunity they were looking for and fake their way into the Gambling hall. Inside they are greeted by two Kobolds who shout ‘Intruder!’
