1.06 - Minister of Pain
General Summary
The party exits the sewers in a unlit, empty part of the warrens. They hear sounds to the north and follow them through the desolate dark streets of the slums of Ptolus. Eventually they come across a crowd of beggars getting their ‘Daily delivery’ of food. Dead litter the streets nearby.. Armed men with the Blackwater standard corral the mob and feed them what Dockshay discovers is poisoned soup in a bread bowl. Liam tries to approach silently but falls from the roof and is almost trampled by the mob, who are being beaten away by Dockshay’s new ‘friend’. Tol is seemingly jealous of anyone being his ‘friend’ besides himself. Zizkek is causious but does control fire to distract the crowd. Meanwhile Dalandar falls through a roof and into an empty house, almost discovered by the armsmen.
The party, still hurt from the sewers, seeks out shelter. They discover the ‘Halfway House’, its full title actually the ‘Halfway House of Pain’ but no-one mentions that last part. Father Dan, the clergy at the church and Minster of Pain, welcomes newcomers with a flat expression but an honest offer of sanctuary. Liam later learns that the father is a solitary follower of Matawa, Princess of Pain. He explains that his mission is to relieve pain from others, to take on pain himself, and to teach his flock how to endure pain so that it no longer rules your life, or so that is what his pamphlet says that Liam receives.
The group also runs into a boy named Samuel Fiest, street urchin and wantabe gangster with the Pale Dogs. Father Dan tells Liam that he is not a member of the gang with enough authority to make liam suspect he has something to do with that fact.
Lastly, Liam learns of someone in the Warrens named Squirelly Tom, though it is doubtful that is his full name. Tom can be found either with Samuel or at the Copper Mug, a rough bar in the local part of the Warrens. The crew opts to go to the bar and find Tom. They are ready for a fight.
Things you now know or can follow up on
There is a grainery somewhere in the city with three smokestacks. The ‘Boss’ is there.
The Blackwater folks called out to the mob to thank Arden Blackwater for the food
The food is poisoned. Dalander makes a good connection between the Soup in a Bread Bowl and the Soupspoon.
Squirrely Tom sounds like he will be a fun NPC. (Made him up last night, but I have already worked him into the story, so visiting him and the Copper Mug will be rewarding)
Liam is still having visions with his watch.
Dockshay is making ‘Friends’ all over.
