Human

"We've come this far. We've persevered in the face of utter destruction. We owe it to ourselves to carry on and to build upon the foundations of those before us."

The First of the Three Origins, the spearheaders of early exploration and colonization efforts, and the most widespread species across the map - humans are adept at adaptation and, unsurprisingly, tend to have the most diversity in terms of cultural and emotional spread. Both a blessing and a curse, humanity offers open arms to all at its best and breeds bigoted, oppressive tyrants at its worst. Many humans are opinionated and unafraid of kicking a figurative hornet's nest at any given time, while others are torchbearers for etiquette.   Truly, they are an unpredictable species.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The standard against which all other species are measured, much to the chagrin of some.

Genetics and Reproduction

Standard sexual reproduction habits.

Ecology and Habitats

Humans are able to survive in just about any environment, given the cost and quality of life make sense. When forced, they are capable of adapting to some of nature's harshest challenges. Necessity is the definitive factor that drives a human's basest sense of self.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The earliest mortals lived off of the land and nature's bounty, foraging and hunting depending on the seasons and the biome they resided in. Meat and animal products have been a staple since the beginning of time, as have any number of plants gifted by nature. Agriculture and farming eventually led to a surge in the yields of grains and vegetables, making them available for cheaper and in higher qualities than many animal products. Dietary habits mostly come down to preference and financial feasibility.

Biological Cycle

All mortals age in a similar fashion, with their mortal shells developing for twenty to thirty years from birth before they slowly begin to deteriorate over the course of many decades.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The social structure of human settlements has remained mostly unchanged since hierarchies and forms of government were established in the days of old. A lord, lady, or ruler is considered to be the highest form of authority and power amidst humans. These individuals command armies, create laws, and dictate the very ways of life for entire populations. It is, undoubtedly, the most powerful and influential position in the hierarchy of humans.

Just below a ruler exists royalty. This role is normally filled by all members of the ruler's family or bloodline, but in rare cases has been extended to include trusted confidants of rulers. Although high in standing on the social hierarchy, the words spoken by royalty are not law; however, they tend to carry a very heavy weight and will oft be heard by their ruler long before the voices of others.

Beneath royalty is the position of magistrate. Magistrate is a broad term used to describe any member on a lengthy list of government officials within the lord's cabinet. These positions have varying degrees of authority and power that is decided by the branch of the government in which their role is seated.

The noble class rests very closely to the position of magistrate, with some nobles having more sway or influence than certain magistrates. Unlike magistrates, many nobles do not necessarily earn their status through climbing ranks and hard work. A great deal of nobles are born into their status or have the wealth to outright purchase the position. For this reason alone there tends to be a great deal of controversy revolving around noble houses and their families. Nevertheless, the importance of currency cannot be contested, and those with the means are not afraid to use them to their advantage.

Merchants of all trades, barkeeps, blacksmiths, carpenters, apothecaries - these iconic professions are but a few on a robust list that is responsible for maintaining the backbone of the territory's commerce. This is the average citizen - their group aptly penned as "the working class" - a laborer that learns a trade and hones their skills day in and day out to provide for their family and their society. Often underappreciated in spite of their overwhelming numbers, an empire, let alone a township, could not exist without these individuals. Their masses have been taxed to the point of poverty, manipulated, and abused many times throughout history for the gain of those above them. It is with sullen but determined hearts that those within this group have accepted that they do not always have the power to change the scale of the world for the better, and so do they disperse their efforts and talents on a shorter spectrum, oft striving for the benefit of those closest to them.

Much like the working class, a life of "peasantry" is an extremely overworked and underappreciated group that is incessantly trampled upon by those above them. Peasants make up the vast majority of rural professions related to farming and animal husbandry. Those born into peasantry are rarely afforded an opportunity to rise to a higher class due to demanding labor that consumes nearly every waking hour of their lives on top of their wealth being tied directly to their land, its product, and its dictational worth as decided by the capital. These farms are expected to meet an annual yield and typically paid a nominal sum for their success. Failure to reach this yield can result in the decommission of an entire family and their land. There is no incentive to overachieve, and higher than expected yields are, by law, not available for resale. Without this class there would be no food, and it is perhaps the fact that all civilized life is contingent upon the efforts of these grunts that they are kept on such a tight leash that tends to perpetuate their cycle of life.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Humans can be found in nearly every region and corner of Avanteria.

Average Intelligence

The intelligence of an average human is particularly well-rounded. Unlike the vhral and darguth, the vast majority of humans are compelled by a basic need to survive. Once that need is met, the human mind derives further desires based mostly on its environmental factors and upbringing. A typical human understands the importance of communication, social etiquette, emotional well-being, individual growth, and tends to have a very strong attachment to its personal moral compass.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Humans are a perfectly mundane species with little to no sensory weaknesses or strengths.
