Thakyrium

Properties

Material Characteristics

The metal is an ashen grey, much like the ash after a completely burned fire has died out. The metal will glisten in in the light if put under the right conditions and can serve as a very elegant mirror, for things reflected in Thakyrium will always appear, no matter what magicks hide them.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Thakyrium is very heat resistant and requires the fire from a dragon or the heat from a thousand forges in order for it to be worked. When Thakyrium melts is gives everyone around it the feeling of pure agony, as if the metal desired to stay in whatever shape it originally was, and as such Scholars use magicks to ward the Smith's mind away from this pain so that the metal can be worked.
It is also well known that Thakyrium is often warm to the touch at room temperature and will get warmer when exposed to colder temperatures, and surprisingly enough the metal will also cool down when exposed to warmer temperatures.

Geology & Geography

This Material is made in Drek' Thylor by means unknown to all but the highest artisans of smithing. It is said that the souls of fallen enemies are used to create this metal, or that an ancient dragon sleeps under Drek' Thylor whose very breath is used to heat this ore, but whatever it may be lies only with the smiths of Drek' Thylor.

Origin & Source

In one of the many stories told by old smiths from Drek' Thylor, it is said that Thakyrium is made from the bodies of fallen warriors and that Heverion knights deemed unworthy of a seat beside Heverion are subjected to cruel magicks and fel rituals. In these stories they elaborate on how the knight accepts their fate and find it honorable to continue their duty of warfare as a suit of armor or weapon for their brethren.

History & Usage

History

Other races fear the sight of Thakyrium and it has been seen to sear, burn, and ignite, the flesh of Elves who touch this metal. This metal is very dangerous to Elves for it is said, that it seeks the blood of those who enslaved the humans, in times before; however, it seems to have no effect on Half-Elves or any other race for that matter. Thakyrium will still strike fear into any person who sees it, for they know the armies of Heverion have come, and their doom is nigh.

Cultural Significance and Usage

This metal is held as proof of Heverion's grace, for humans hold that no other empire has discovered this metal, and therefore Humanity must be superior for developing such a fine metal. Thakyrium is most often used to make armor and weapons for it is believed, that if they do not forge the metal into such an object, that the metal will become angry and will rebel against its new shape. There are stories of Thakyrium refusing to take the shape and harden in casts such as rings or necklaces; however, Thakyrium is still sometimes seen in jewelry format, but wearers always take caution in wearing this precious metal, for it is said that the metal may turn molten as you wear it.

Distribution

Storage

Thakyrium is stored deep within the vaults of the Heverion Knight's warchambers, for the Knights must always have the metal ready, because repairs must be made for their armor and weapons after battle.

Law & Regulation

The Kingdom of Twilight keeps Thakyrium heavily regulated and always keeps track of where its bars are at all times. Thakyrium is never traded to any outside kingdom or empire and is always kept in heavily guarded safes before refinement into armor or weapons.
