Journey Up the West Side of Nottoscale River
Artio Swiftwind
We begin our journey going up the west side of the Nottoscale River. It was me, Jamison, Anne, Alastor, Nash, and Kirth. About half a day up the river we encounter the Bad Bridge. Upon close inspection, we find that there were a group of orcs sleeping under the bridge. Not looking for a fight this early in our journey, we continue onward and do not disturb them. Another half-day walk, we encounter a goblin trying to kill some boars for dinner. His attempt was soon abandoned when he saw us and immediately came to attack us. We attack back, but out of nowhere a lightning boat tricks the goblin and the boar it was riding on. It was terrifying. I do not know if we ever found out where or who it came from. The other boars ran away and I shot and killed it as I came on this journey to hunt for food for the town. As I did this, Nash said he saw a ship in the distance, though ships cannot fit in the river so I guess it was grounded, though I cannot remember clearly. Anyway, I had gotten 50 lbs of boar meat from the encounter and a lovely boar hide.
We continued onward until we were able to see Fort Eusless on the other side of the river. We also discovered that the ghost-like creature we encountered on the east side of the river was a wisp. As we were discussing this creature, Knoll Witherlings emerge from the wood and the river and attacked us. We killed them easily and on their bodies found some gold, silver, and copper. We made camp at the forest edge that night after making a new fort that we named Fort Eusful. That night while on duty, I heard a voice that said "Adventure.....North ......come..... Treasure...." I woke Jamison to tell him about the voice as it was his turn for guard duty next. I went to sleep afterward and nothing else happened that night.
The next morning I woke to a gift from Jamison. It was a drawing of a bow and arrow with the boar I killed the day before. It was a lovely and thoughtful gift. It hangs in my tent in Last Hope.
That morning, Jamison said that the voice I heard that night told him that the treasure was half a day north, so we decided to go forward to check it out. While we were preparing to set off that morning, I took some time to go hunting and acquired three rabbits and four pheasants. Once I returned and everyone was ready, we set off again and walked half a day north. There I heard the same voice tell me "hero.... treasure awaits.... go.... west...." At this point, I became wary of the voice. It was probably a trap by some evil spirit creature, like the wisp. But after some deliberation, we all set out west to find the treasure. We arrive to a cave about two hours west of where we were. Untrusting to the cave, Nash sends in his familiar raven to inspect the cave. Within it, he says that there are blood and scratch marks along with some treasure. A banshee screech cries out through the cave as he inspects it, fears shivers through all our bones as the source of the screech is nowhere to be seen. As we begin to contemplate whether to go in or leave, a wisp appears. I knew this was a trap!
We fought valiantly against this creature, but then it attacks Nash, downing him instantly, then it enters his body and seemingly consumes his soul! With rage to avenge our fellow brethren, we continue to attack the wisp. Kirth sends three magical missiles at the creature and deals the final blow. I believe we named the cavern Nash's Burrow in memorial to him. We then walked back to the river and built a raft to drift home, not wanting to encounter any more death.
Journey Up River
Artio Swiftwind
We left in the early morning, heading northeast up the eastward side of the Nottoscale River. Our adventuring party consisted of five people, myself, Roton, Kirth, Jonah and Orion. We traveled about a day before we came across an old broken white stone bridge that stretched across the 40-foot wide river. Roton went on the bridge to determine how safe it was, but he had to return before he could get halfway across. The bridge seemed like it was crumbling in the middle. Underneath the bridge, there was the remnants of a campsite, unknown foot tracks marked the ground. Around the campsite were burned bodies of unknown race displayed on pikes. Orion thought it best to head back to Last Hope upon seeing these bodies. We named this bridge Bad Bridge. The rest of us kept trekking forward.
As the sun set, we found a tree to sleep under near the river. Our sleep was short-lived as two giant wolf spiders came to attack the camp. I was severely injured by one. For some reason, I could not hit either of them with my bow. Roton and the wizards did most of the fighting. They killed the spiders. Kirth took some of the spiders' venom. He did not have any vials for the venom, so he used his waterskin. I hope that he bought a new one. I would hate for him to accidentally poison himself.
After the spiders were defeated, we were able to get our rest. The next morning we set off again to map the area. About 4 hours into our hike, we came across a white stone outpost that looked to be a guard tower. In front of it stood a white stone statue holding a spear. Having encountered a creature like this before, I took to arms. I readied my bow to attack. Luckily so, because shortly after, it came to life to attack us. I took a shot at it with my bow then put a lot of distance between us. Roton tried to play hero by flying towards it and attacking. He was slightly injured. I had hoped that my companions would realize that ranged attacks would be most useful due to the statue only being able to attack when close to you. One of the wizards set a trap of grease for the creature which knocked it on its behind. It was now stuck, vulnerable to all attacks. We all attack it with vigor, but it was Roton who blew the fatal blow, exploding the stone with his staff. An obsidian skull fell from it and I rushed over to grab it. As I examined it, I noticed a strange magic feeling coming off of it. Not good with understanding and identifying magic, I gave it to Jonah. I believe he still has it. I then went to take the spear that the statue had dropped when it came to attack us. There was nothing special about the spear, but now I have a new weapon.
The wizards then decided to check out the guard. I named this post: Naemles Outpost. Roton and I stayed outside. I examined the exterior of the building but found nothing there. Inside, the wizards said they found a dead body. They left the building with a bag of silver-colored coins with a dragon on them. The dragon looked like the one you would see when you follow the Yellow Brick Road. There were 50 coins in the bag. We split it between the four of us. Kirth and I got 13 coins and Jonah and Roton had gotten 12.
We then walked a half-day to the edge of the forest. There we saw tree stumps. This must have been where the loggers worked. There were dead carcasses of animals and one logger. The wounds were feline, creature unknown. After some discussion about whether we should turn back now or not, we decide to stay the night and head back in the morning. Kirth made a raft that he believed was the best raft he ever made. It was trash.
Kirth then made a barrier out of dirt around us to protect us from the elements. The barrier was a 10-foot trench on all sides except for a spot for us to exit along with a three-foot wall in front of the trench. Jonah made spikes out of sticks and stuck them in the trench.
I was the last one on watch duty. It was raining at that time. I left the barrier to go get some sticks and leaves to provide shelter for my friends. As I was gathering the supplies for the last part of the shelter, a blue light appeared. I could not make out what it was from where I was standing, so believing it may be a fairy, I moved closer to get a better look. It was not a fairy. It was a ghost-like creature with lighting abilities. It injured me and I ran. The others woke to my squabble and came to attack the creature. It was difficult to hit. A very smart creature. Roton made it glow with purple flames so when it tried to become invisible, we could still see it. It hid among the spikes in our trench, making it more difficult to hit, but we were able to kill it. It disappeared as if it never existed. Strange creature. I wish I could know what it was.
I did not get much sleep that night. I was still injured when the morning came. Kirth pushed his raft into the river, it tore apart almost instantly. Roton made a better raft, big enough for all of us to fit on. We rode it downriver, back to town. The barrier we left, we named Fort Eusless. It was pretty useless to the ghosts.
We all were able to come back with our lives this time, though the journey was rough. I plan to venture further into the forest the next time I quest.
The Quest for Horses
Artio Swiftwind
We set out on the quest through the Provana, heading east along the Yellow Brick Road. The party consisted of five, myself, Jamison, Apollo, Captain Oryx and Banbeck. After about half a day's walk we came across a fellnut tree with two large nests in it. Jamison gathered many fellnuts from the tree. In the nests they laid a total of five eggs--one egg in one nest and four in the other. Banbeck took one of the eggs. I asked him not to, but he persisted so I let him. Below the tree, there were burrows which were homes to lovely mereleapords. My friend Jamison took a fellnut off of the tree and lured one of the beautiful creatures out of its burrow. It was beautiful. It had a lovely red coat with brown markings. They seemed like intelligent creatures.
After the calm encounter with the mereleapords, we continued east to find horses. However, night fell upon us and we needed to find a place to rest. Banbeck pointed out the top of a hill. It looked like it would be a nice place to rest. It was a good advantage point for scouting any type of creature throughout the Provana, however, I saw that there was another fellnut tree with multiple nests within it along with dozens of eggs. I saw one egg lay on the ground, cracked open and eaten by an unknown creature. Knowing that it was unwise to stay near a nest with a broken egg, I recommended we sleep somewhere else. My warning was useless. Before I could finish my sentence, five Blood Hawks swarmed us. I begged my party not to kill any because they were protecting their nest, but three were slaughtered. The captain was severely wounded by one of the massive creatures during the attack, but luckily we all escaped with our lives.
Once we escaped, we found a more suitable place to rest and heal. I attempted to make a fire, but there were not enough sticks to build it properly. The next morning we continued our journey to find horses.
We walked along the path and found ourselves at the Flatfoot Hills. Among there, Apollo pointed out a goblin scout riding on this wolf like creature that I can't remember the name of. He took off away from us. We went scout him back. Apollo yelled to him in some foreign language, I believe he said something along the lines of we were not a threat. The goblin kept riding East. It took us a while to figure out what to do. The goblin could have gone to get his friends and attack us. We didn't know whether we should go to the Death Well or return home. Before we could come to a decision, the goblin returned with three friends riding more of those beast creatures.
A battle commenced. Banbeck put up a barrier between us and the goblins and we all readied ourselves for battle. We were high upon the hill with a valley between us and the riders. But as the goblins reached the bottom of the valley, the earth gave into them, like a blessing from Silvanus. The goblins fell to their doom. The party wished to explore the new cavern. I tried to get them back on task. We were there to find horses. Not explore caverns. We can come back another day for that.
I eventually gave into them and we went explore the cavern, which looked like a house. We entered first the dining room, then the grand hall. There were many rooms within the hall. I first explored the study with Banbeck and Apollo. There lied a desk and a musical instrument that seemed to be piano-like. The next room I explored spooked me and I immediately left. There was blood. I did not want to deal with that. The next door I opened was nothing but dirt, however I did not pay mind to the stone statue that guarded the door, Jamison had though. The statue came to life and he quickly attempted to pull me out of the way, but I was severely injured.
I woke up after the battle had ended, and I wasn't the only one who was unconscious. Jamison had gotten injured from the statue. When we woke he was covered in dirt--it was apparently some type of healing spell that Banbeck knew--Jamison must have been more injured than me. Banbeck and Apollo were injured by some blast apparently. I don't know exactly what happened. The captain was fine but also injured. We were all in a sitting room. It was very comfortable.
Banbeck, Apollo and the captain went into the room next to the sitting room. They apparently wanted to open this chest, believing it was full of treasure. Jamison and I did not trust it. There were these weird magic sigils on it. It seemed dangerous. At first, they attempted to move it, but the sigil underneath made it hault. Then we were told to draw straws to who would attempt to open it. Banbeck and the captain ended up going. As the captain was talking to Apollo, getting his affairs in order, Banbeck went forward to open the chest. This triggered the sigil on the top of the chest. Poor Banbeck, a good friend, was killed. Frozen solid. When he defrosted, we took his items off of him to give to his next of kin and then we buried him. I made a grave marker out of sticks. I believe we called the cavern home Banbeck's Tomb, but I'm unsure if it stuck.
With heavy hearts, we left the Flatfoot hills to head to Death Well. We spent the night there and the next day we began our walk to Last Hope. On the way, we found a horse. It sold for 75 gold. We split it between the four of us.
The journey was long. I will miss Banbeck. I wish he would have lived longer. I hope he is resting well in the afterlife.
