Eclipselite

Jewlery with a shadow.

An incredibly precious gemstone that is cut into soft shards and used as pendents, the stone is said to give the wearer a feeling of the eclipse, a sudden calm that glows brighter when worn by a more powerful autumn and glows brighter the longer it is worn. Some of these are past down through generations. What is not known by the public is that this substance actually absorbs the wearer's power which is what makes it glow. This is one of the reasons individual Autumns have less power than the last generation as one organisation is collecting the power.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Clear and shiny with a tinting glow, a sharp looking shard that is in fact smoothly polished down. A normal shard would fit nicely in the palm of your hand and through it everything is slightly magnified and clearer. The light fractures out through it over the wearer's neck in the colors that contribute to that shard's color. Eg if it is a purple crystal the light would fracture into red, blue and all the shades in between. When seen n a mirror however it is colorless, just a piece of glass.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Touching it calms you and increases your alertness. Slightly cool. Toughing the raw substance will take all power, warmth, color pigment and conscious from a person. If this is not absorbed by the rest of the vain, the isolated and overpowered crystal will shatter in an explosion. The involved will almost certainly die after being drained by the crystal. That or they will live the rest of their lives as an albino powerless, most likely among humans.

Geology & Geography

Found deep underground in a Silent Powerstone vein. If exposed to bright light before sealed in Eclipselite polish is will shatter in a very dangerous explosion and turn to glass.

Origin & Source

Only one known mine a few miles from Aurora.

History & Usage

History

A very bright stone shows great power though a family and great value. Extremely valuable as the only mine was closed down due to the shadow plague.   thing everyone had forgotten about was the eclipselite, less than 100kg of powerful crystals stored in lightproof, heatproof cases waiting in abandoned homes. But the miners, most of whom had been disgraced because of their lack of power, some unowned by their families and all living downtrodden lives since childhood, had had another plan for this energy absorbing crystal. The eclipselite polish they had been developing before their untimely deaths did keep the stone from absorbing light, heat, pigment and other types of energy (reducing the chances of explosions), but it allowed the gem to absorb the autumns channeling power. In the long nights in the caves, the miners hatched a plan. It seemed only right that after being disrespected for lack of power their whole lives, they should have a chance to even the scores. Now had all died alone in the mines, the crystals were unknowingly sold at extreme prices as "beautiful and historic jewelry" and sent out into the world.

Discovery

History: 600 or so years ago when the Balforen mines were opened and young fortune hunters, many of whom couldn't find work due to their weak power sources went to mine the Silent Powerstone veins found within, they found the first and only known source of eclipselite. Upon learning of it's properties and discovering safe ways to remove it (after a few accidents), the miners began extracting it from the mines, in dark stone cases piece by piece. After being in the caves for a month, they retreated to the bright light of day with the first load of their treasure and to restock food supplies in the nearby city, Aurora. However, by leaving the mine they also released the Shadow Plague which killed them (as well as 20,000 others) and so the mine was closed down before any more could be extracted.

Hazards

Toughing the raw substance will take all power, warmth, color pigment and conscious from a person. If this is not absorbed by the rest of the vain, the isolated and overpowered crystal will shatter in an explosion. The involved will almost certainly die after being drained by the crystal. That or they will live the rest of their lives as an albino powerless, most likely among humans. Explosions are extremely dangerous as shards can pierce through anything as tough as iron.
