It does not come without saying, that someone can rely on the powers of magic. Only creatures with an affinity to magic are capable of using it.

There are no conventional methods to give someone an affinity to magic.

Causes

Many scholars have often wondered how a person is capable of using magic, as the only thing they found out is that besides heritage, no known factors are influencing the magical capabilities of an individual. And even if your whole bloodline can use magic, there is no guarantee that you are able to use it as well. You are either born with the ability to cast spells or don't have it at all.

It has been found out, that only in House Meron everyone is able to call upon the powers of magic.

Symptoms

You can see a light purplish shimmer in the eyes of someone that has a magical affinity. People with an affinity to magic can cast all different kinds of spells, even though some might require more training than others.

Treatment

The only known way to cut someone's affinity to magic is by letting him undergo the holy ritual at the Temple of Purity. This way, they lose their magical powers but also go insane as "a part of them has been chopped off."

Prognosis

A magic-user gets more powerful the more frequently he uses his abilities.

Sequela

Magic users are a more natural victim to magical possession than others. This possession expresses itself through a paranoid and power-hungry behavior.

Prevention

By letting the pregnant mother undergo the ritual of purity, the child will indubitably be born without magic powers. There is also a way to limit someone's magical affinity so that one is no longer able to cast spells as long as he wears it: An Amulet of Purity.

Cultural Reception

Most people have a neutral reception towards seeing magic affine people as they are used to see them. Direct contact, on the other hand, is a thing that most humans still avoid as they fear to get on their wrong side and get incinerated into a pile of ashes by their powers.
