Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Elves age slowly, often living to 300 years old on average though some have gone on to 500 years before. Most often elves die from external causes such as disease before they die of old age. As such elves that do die of old age tend to be revered and such a death is seen as tragic.

Ecology and Habitats

They originate from the Island of Alder, which is covered in temperate forest filled with large trees.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elves eat a mostly vegetarian diet, tho they will eat meat if they need too. They do have the ability to go many days without food, however, but have love for sweet and succulent foods such as fruits.

Known to be extremely smart and intelligent. Their ability to adapt is unmatched, and are known to be a hardy people.

Beauty Ideals

There isn't as much sexual dimorphism in elves as in other humanoids. Males tend to be taller and broader, though rarely broader than a human male. They tend to be naturally lean and fit, with inhumanly good metabolisms. Males do not grow facial hair, or indeed much body hair at all, and have at least shoulder-length hair. Female elves are slender and willowy, considered beautiful by most. They are almost as tall as human males, though lighter of frame and weight than most human females. Their faces tend to be austere and beautiful, with high cheekbones and delicate symmetrical features. Elves maintain an otherworldly beauty, and whether found in their magnificent wilderness communities or cosmopolitan civilizations, are often well-dressed or even glamorous.

Courtship Ideals

Elves mate for life, and will only ever bond sexually to one person. Some exceptions of this are noted, but mostly to an individual basis. They will only have one or two children within their long lifespans, and eleven children tend to be rare. Their keen touch for romance has brought many fables and myths, some even have basis in truth.

Relationship Ideals

They are slow to make friends, especially of other races, but once a friendship is struck it tends to last a lifetime.

Average Technological Level

Most of their technological advantage is magic based. They are renowned artisans and their crafts tend to be the envy of others. Their swords tend to be prized possessions of many, with the Volkist even praising them as true Volk.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Elves speak Elven, but have learned that being fluent in common is quite useful. Elven is believed to be among the eldest, if not the eldest of the languages mortals speak. The Elven alphabet contains 33 letters (24 consonants and nine vowels). It is a complex language, but sounds poetic in tone and cadence.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Half-Elves are known to exist. Usually shunned by the other half of their parentage, they tend to associate with their eleven heritage more then others. Though they inherit many positive traits from both of their heritage, one major consequence is their life span. While Elves often live to be around 300, Humans live to be around 80. Half-elves will get either an Elven life span or a Human one, but because Elves and Humans mature at simnilair rates untill age 20 a Half-Elf won't know until close to age 30.
