Horn of the North

Image by Rufhorn Art on Devian Art, CC BY-NC-SA
Forged from the horn of a wandering minotaur, the Horn of the North, is a sacred instrument passed down through the line of house generals. Each house owns their own horn carved with the ensignia of the house. The horn is held by the house general who guards it with their life. When the sucsesseur comes of age, the horn is passed down to them. When a house enters battle, the general blows the horn, signifying the start of the battle. Nations throughout the northern parts of Xaron fear the call of the horn since it usually proceeds a Nordian raid.   The horn is capable, when blown, of summoning a white raven to aid the caller. A white raven is a huge bird who stands as a symbol for the people of Nordia. The distinct shrill call of the horn is made to match the call of the white raven.

History

In 205AE, the great warrior, Daruma Sever, defeated the minotaur king, Fraun. Returning victorious on the back of his noble white raven, he brandished the horn of his slain foe. Though victorious, Daruma collapsed mortaly wounded. His funeral was accompanied by the call of the horn forged from the horn of Fraun, sinaling the end of the great king. As the war of ice concluded, the minotaur kingdom fell and the horns of their generals were forged into horns that were distributed among the houses. The original horn remained with royal house and it is said that its call echoes the cries of the white raven as Daruma fell.

Significance

The Horn of the North is a sacred item for the people of Nordia, it symbolizes a house's strength and status. The horn is one of the last remaining artifacts that Nordia posesses from the ancient era. The horn of Daruma, still residing in the capital, Severs Keep, is a object of contraversy. The Nordians view it as a symbol of their strength and history. The remaining minotaur nations view it as a symbol of fear and the fuel for their hatred of the Nordians.
