Bavec

Bavec of Utokowa is the Goddess of Birth, Death, Medicine, and Spirits in the Commonfolk Mythos. She is associated with childbirth, the dead, the Spirit Wilds, the Deepwoods, swamp marshes, and the night. Bavec is the matron goddess of the orcs, and was canonized in the original pantheon of Commonfolk deities in 3201 w.s., in cooperation with the orc clans.   Born in 1337 to the Utokowa clan, Bavec was raised by her mother and father, veterans of the Ortanaka War. Bavec was brought up learning medicine from the midwives circle of her clan, and practiced courser riding with her father. Together they dwelled in the west regions of the Deepwoods until the Utokowa clan disbanded in 1353 as a result of infighting. Bavec and her family migrated east to the Sahkapewa clan, but shortly after Bavec left home on a pilgrimage south. She traveled through the lands of the Mihkomia, and across the lands of Atlaoacan, then back again to the Sahkapewa of the North.
On her journey she documented her findings on the unique cultures of the many orc clans, and developed a body of philosophical works as she studied the spiritual practices of Catuali and Cosmology. Upon her return to the Sahkapewa in 1362, she had created the Okinakew, a metaphysical text on the shared cultural values and spiritual duties of orckind, and a medical text documenting the history of orc medicinal practices. Bavec would gain prominence with the creation of the Okinakew Fires, a tradition that would bring together orcs to provide medicinal healing and food for anyone indiscriminately, and introduce them to the nature spirits. The Okinakew Fires would contribute to more peaceful interactions between orc clans, and in time develop a shared cultural identity among them.   The Fires would become even more significant as the conflicts between clans continued. In her lifetime, Bavec served as a field doctor in over a hundred battles across seven clan wars. The Okinakew fires became neutral areas that rendered aid to any in need on either side of the conflicts, providing refuge for the displaced, and healing for the wounded. The fires were operated and guarded from belligerents by Bavec's followers, who's numbers grew with support from peaceful clans. The Fires would save countless lives and create generations of healers and doctors, while also contributing to the decline in hostilities among orc clans.

Personal history

Bavec was born on the 11th day of the Spirit Moon, 1337 w.s., to Macawi and Canowic of Oyonwa family, of the Utokowa clan. Macawi and Canowic were veterans of the Ortanaka War of 1330, Macawi serving as a field healer and Canowic as a courser. At the end of the war, Canowic married Macawi and joined her as a head of the Oyonwa family. The couple had one son, Urhon, and one daughter, Bavec.    Bavec recieved an early education from the midwives circle of her clan, of which Macawi was a skilled member. She learned the ways of traditional medicine and healing as an apprentice of her mother, while her father taught Urhon the ways of courser hunting. When she was ten, she secretly followed Canowic and Urhon on a hunt, wishing to
