Crafting Magical Items

From crafting fearsome weapons to brewing life-saving potions, creating magic items is a popular profession often employed by various guilds and individual with the coin required. During the Wars with Magic, magical items could be found in most shops in every corner of the world.   Unfortunately, much of those practices were lost at eras end. Today, enchanters and alchemists work to expand upon ancient techniques and develop new theories and practices. It is a difficult craft to learn, but if you have what it takes your work can fetch a high price in most instances.

What is Required?

A Formula

A formula describes the construction of a particular item. This can be something developed or acquired through purchase or trade. Be careful though, not of formula sources are as reputable as they may appear

Arcane Influence

The crafter must have the ability to bend arcane energy to their will because the process involves imbuing an item with magic. This includes having and expending material components that a particular spell requires. Even magic items that do not produce spells still require spellcasters to create the item.

Experience

Depending on how potent the magic being imbued, the crafter may need to have a minimum amount of experience in order to cast the spells required to enchant. Review the table below

Materials, Tools, and Location

Particular tools or supplies may be required to successfully completed the crafting of a particular item. Alternatively, other items may only be crafted at certain locations or during specific times of the day or year. For example, a Flametongue dagger require forging with lava.       If the item being crafted produces a spell, the creator must expend one spell equal to the spell's strength each day of creation. This includes having or expending required material components, if required. That is unless the item has a one-time use (such as a spell scroll) in which the components are only consumed once.

Multiple Contributors

If multiple crafters meet the ability requirements, they can work together to create a magic item. Each crafter can contribute spells, spell ability, and components; all crafters must participate during the entire crafting process each crafting day.   Each crafter can contribute 5% if the creation cost of effort per day crafting the item. This means that the time required can be divided by the number of contributing crafters. Note that the guidelines of crafting do not require each character to have spell strength or the spell to contribute. Only one of the crafters needs the spell requirements. Thus, any crafter can contribute to creating the magic item if they meet the strength prerequisites.

The spell being transcribed to the spell scroll must be prepared or among the crafter's known spells in order to be created successfully.     workweek = 6 days worth of work.
4 workweeks = 24 working days to complete a project

Healing Potions

The crafting of healing potions has become a rather large industry considering the ever increasing demand from Adventurer and Mercenary Guilds as well as local and national military and policing organizations.   Because of this, the items needed to produce such potions is more readily available than other potions, giving them their own set of requirements. Any individual proficient with an herbalism kit can brew these and other potions, provided they have the necessary coin for materials.     workweek = 6 days worth of work.
