Sessions 13 & 14: The Catacombs

Sebastian forged a document from The Order saying that the expedition into the catacombs was now a joint expedition between them and the Explorer's Guild. The forged order was signed by Aranil Lightbeard.   The party then tailed the duo until they reached the East Wall at which point they overtook them to get to the catacombs first. Einar tied a rope to a boulder and the party descended into the hole.   The party explored the area. They found a living area with deteriorated furniture and timeworn books on a shelf. Sebastian took a magic for dummies book, along with a potion of healing, and a potion of fire breathing that was on the shelf. They also found goggles of the night on a nightstand and two chests tucked away under the bed. The larger chest contained 500 electrum pieces, Sebastian elected to leave 200 in the chest to avert suspicion, and they took the smaller chest which had several gems in it.   They also found a mostly caved in room hidden with an illusory wall from the other side. They found another illusory wall concealing a door in the room that they had entered through and followed the hallway toward the burial room. Sebastian then set off a trap on the door which blasted him and awakened several suits of animated armor one of which collapsed upon awakening.   The party defeated the remaining suits and proceeded to an ornate double door at the back of the chamber.   Following a hallway, the party came upon a large open room with a suit of plate armor standing on a dais and a  large statue against the back wall. After throwing a rock at the statue the plate armor came to life with a red glow.   The animated flying suit of armor pushed the party to retreat chasing them out of the catacombs.    The party staked out the opening until the duo, the dwarf Roland Rosemund and the noble Leonda Tychon, they had been tailing arrived. Sebastian used his forged document to team up with them and after a rest, the group returned to the suit that had bested them. Using tactics and the extra manpower the party bested the armor and it crumbled to the floor.   The group then investigated the room including the statue along the back wall which Sebastian recognized as remarkably similar to his spymaster Dedric. There was an inscription near the statue's feet that read:   "The lost paladin. May his path lead through the light."
