Session 15: NecroBotany from Beyond the Grave

The party left the catacombs, and Sebastian shared with Einar that the statue looked very similar to his spymaster. The duo desided to head for the library that served as the Explorer's Guild's headquarters.   On the second day of their journey, the duo arrived in Wyndover where they heard a crier announcing a bounty for a slain professor at the local university. The party went to city hall to inquire about it where councilor Gayle Ferreen told them that a research assistant, Lyrie Ravenelis, is suspected of killing her professor and fled shortly after. She offers 250 gold pieces for her successful capture or kill, then gives them a writ to access her residence and lab space.   They find a sparse ransacked residence with small mounds of dirt on the ground. There were roots in the dirt that gave off a small magical aura. The party traveled to the guard barracks where they questioned the quartermaster on the documents. They were told the council sent a runner with a requisition order for them. They then went to the lab which was also ransacked and had several smashed pots of dirt with similar roots. Einar found a clump of paper that had at some point fallen behind a desk. The paper had a list of plants native to the area around Orestad in a neighboring duchy.   The party then returned to city hall where they smooth talked for passage into the basement where files were kept and lied to the clerk on duty to gain access to the papers stolen. They found out that professor Garrus Lyndz was trying to use plants to grow something from a limited supply of something.   From city hall, the party traveled to Bromer and Sons Mortuary where they spoke to Bromer and found Lyndz's body with multiple stab wounds in his back. They then returned to the University of Wyndover and spoke to one of professor Lyndz's colleagues in the botany department who mentioned that Lyndz had been requisitioning plants from near Orestad and directed the party to Lyndz's office.   Lyndz's office had also been ransacked, but Einar managed to find a note tucked into a book that indicated that Lyndz had discovered what 'they' wanted him to grow and why.   Sebastian later disguised himself as a bounty hunter and followed up on the lead again watching counselor Gayle Ferreen for signs of falsehood which he believes that he found.
