Age of Balance

The Realms of Athanya are currently 350 years into a period of time called the Age of Balance. Unlike the prior era, the Age of Terror, the flows of energy within the essence of reality are now suitable for intelligent life to hold awareness.
As the Realms of Athanya drew into alignment—slowly at first, then faster as the force of their attraction grew—the inklings of culture began to take hold in what would later become the intelligent races. They were still largely unaware of what they were doing, but these hints were always true to what each race would end up embodying. It was only at the precise moment when the Age of Balance began, with a shudder that briefly overtook each Realm and a sound something like a metallic sigh, that every sapient individual simultaneously gained full awareness.
From that moment onward, the intelligent peoples found themselves adrift in new worlds full of strange magic and dangerous creatures. Each race reacted differently to suddenly coming into awareness in unexplored environments. Some, like the Xhiri, were elated. Others, such as the Tsaamit, were guarded yet optimistic. All quickly began to form bonds with one another as they navigated their new surroundings. Though it's unknown when the Age of Balance will end, in the meantime, the promise of the intelligent races is only continuing to grow.

Manifestation

The flow of energy within the Realms is still not fully understood, but scholars theorize that the very fabric of reality is influenced by the relationship the Realms have with each other. When the Realms are aligned in certain "shapes," the energy flowing between them creates different conditions of reality.
