The Boundary Mountain Range

When the Emperor said it was our sacred charge to claim every nook and cranny from here to the Boundary mountains, he neglected to mention that the Wyverns were here first.

Often cited as the single greatest obstacle to the Empire's expansion, the Boundary Mountain Range is a series of extreme cliffs jutting from the ground like megalithic spires. Their sheer height makes the cliff faces unnavigatable, spare for a few carefully guarded mountain passes. The guardsmen themselves are half the problem, however. Vicious flying monsters such as Harpies, Wyverns and Gryphons treat the mountains as a safe haven while they hunt in the valleys below. Each of these creatures are highly territorial, making passage through the range nearly suicidal.
