Kazak-Kadar

The dwarven kingdom is mostly hidden from plain sight, it's sprawling tunnels running deep underground around the lake Gral'grak (Brandsee in Common). While the tunnels have been a source of great fortune from mining, the monsters slumbering in the Underdark pose a serious threat to the dwarven civilization, who wage eternal war against the terrors of the deep.   This affair had been rather successful until the fairly recent Dragon Prince Wars, which left the dwarven armies in a state of disrepair. Since then, they have had to abandon a large number of their tunnels due to a lack of manpower.   Even through all their hardships, the dwarves continue to carry on with pride, seeking to honor their ancestors in battle. While they initially treated the Empire with lack of respect, they eventually developed a friendly relationship, even signing the Treaty of Peace.

Structure

All dwarves answer to the call of the High King, descendant of the first dwarven kings. His trusted Thanes form the aristocracy of the kingdom, being tasked with overseeing smaller segments of the High King's lands.

Public Agenda

Most of the dwarven resources lie locked away below ground, where they lead a long-lasting battle against various monstrosities which dwell in the dark. As such, they are quite passive on the field of diplomacy, seeking to first resolve their own problems.

Assets

Incredible riches lie locked away in the treasuries of Kazak-Kadar, gained by centuries of mining and prospecting. This has helped tremendously with their technological progress, with many of dwarven inventions being the source of envy for the outside world.

History

A kingdom past it's prime, it is said that once the dwarven tunnels spanned the entire continent. Even during these golden times however, the dwarves largely kept to themselves, only making contact with the surface races when it was absolutely necessary.   Their power had peaked not long after the Atlas King had been slain during the elvish recess. The High Kings had grown too confident however, leaving the surface-dwellers to their own devices. Eventually, the Dragon Princes rose to prominence alongside greenskins and waged war on the Dwarfs, hoping to seize their riches as well as their technology.
