Al'Shandal

Kingdom of the Elves, Al'Shandal comprises of Meliamne forest and it's closest surroundings. At the heart of the forest lies The Oak of Ancients, the source of magical power and long lifespan for all elves (excluding snow elves). This Oak is enclosed within the walls of an elven city, which is named after the entire kingdom.

Structure

The hierarchy of Al'Shandal is reminiscent of that of most human countries, with the exception of The Verdant Queen, an eternal and revered symbol of perfection among the elves. She rules from the Throne of Lunar Tears with assistance from her advisors. The Throne of the Sungifted remains vacant after the Atlas King's death.

Public Agenda

The policy of the Queen's court has remained largely unchanged over the last centuries. She has made an effort to carry out the will of the gods by preserving the ancient elven traditions as well as protecting the Ancient Oak and Meliamne Forest from all who seek to harm it or usurp it's magic.   In a broader sense, elves seek to preserve and protect the world and nature itself from harm, which is why Gelad'hell plays an integral role in the elven society.   Most of the kingdom's elves tolerate the presence of humans who have been given permission to enter the forest, but trespassers swiftly meet their end at the hands of the protectors of the sacred glade.

Assets

While the manpower of the elven kingdom trails behind that of the humans, it makes up for it in being the country with some of the most powerful magic-wielders in the world, including the Verdant Queen herself.   The treasuries of Al'Shandal brim with ancient relics and artifacts of untold power as well as some of the more earthly riches, gathered throughout the kingdoms long history.

History

The oldest country in the known world, Al'Shandal has existed for several thousand years. Many legends tell stories of the creation of the kingdom and while they disagree on most details, the core of their content seems to remain the same.   After the gods had agreed to ascend into their respective realms and stop interfering with the lives of the mortals, Labelas Enoreth, the elvish god of time, decided to reward the most loyal of the elvish kind with immortality, under the condition that they would continue to carry out the bidding of him and his kin. This is how the Verdant Queen and the Eternal King were created to rule over Al'Shandal in the gods' absence.
