Centaur

The centaur world is one of brutal violence, a violence that permeates every aspect of their culture and society. No thought do they give to the origins of their species, nor to the relation between them and their cousins in Guayal, the minotaurs and satyrs. Instead, centaurs have elevated the art of killing to an art form, mastering every weapon available to them. Centaur society is organised into loose clans with a hierarchy based on strength. Strength is proved via the number of skulls you display on your belt; the more skulls, the more respect is owed to you, and vice versa. Naturally, the strongest centaur heads the clan. The clan chieftain holds absolute authority, both spiritual as the vessel of the King of a Thousand Hooves, the centaur war (and only) deity, and physical. The clan obeys the chieftain’s whims, until their strength is supplanted or they are slain. There are those who hold no clan allegiance; however, they are few in number, for with nobody to protect them, they are fair game for anyone who can kill them. Those that survive tend to leave the plains, working as mercenaries as far abroad as Leica, where they are feared for their ability. A common saying has arisen from this - a centaur on the battlefield is worth an army.   Centaurs speak the Centaur language, disdaining other tongues as belonging to weaker beings, and thus inferior.
