Tri-fan Galleon

The Tri-fan galleons are armed commercial cargo dune-ships who haul cargo and people across the Coarse Sea. They are primarily owned by trading companies hailing from sandports such as Scorch Gate who hire captains and crews to sail and trade in their name. Most captains can create a comfortable life for themselves out of this agreement and retire after around 30 years of service, However there are captains who, either out of malice or greed, have taken full possession of their galleons and raid the sandy dunes, terrorising the trade lines as Dune picaroons.   Tri-fan galleons are build out several types of wood. Most of the ship is build out of mahogany except for the masts and keel. The masts are carved out of blackbutt lumber and the keel is made out of box wood. The hull is made out of several layers of planks, with each layer overlapping the one below which makes sure that as little sand as possible can find its way into the tri-fan galleon.

Propulsion

A tri-fan galleon carries three or more masts, with a central mast which holds up four sails with a central cross. The two other masts are slanted to the sides of the central mast, giving them the look of bat wings.

Weapons & Armament

It is not uncommon for a tri-fan galleon to have up to 50 cannonades on board divided over its two sides, and some say there are even galleons who carry well over 150 cannonades.

Sensors

Every Tri-fan galleon is equipped with a anthem compass to allow them to find their way through the moving dunes of the Coarse Sea. the anthem compass is a special device which always points to the centre of the Coarse Sea, called the Stone of Anthem, a magnetised stone formation which, when looked at from the right angle, has the form of a singing woman.
