Hilal

Seated between the two arms of the crescent mountains, one can stand on top of the highest building around and still not see the two ends of the city. Where most cities would have gradually expended in all directions, the Hilalians decided to build next to the ancient moon wall that protected the old Orclands for generations, leading to the stretched out thin shape it has now. As the number of undead in the Wastes of Ishtarr increased, they eventually build a second wall, nicknaming it the sun wall. These sun wall is even more well guarded than the moon wall, with any non-orc caught climbing the wall receiving an immediate execution.   Hilal is considered to be the cultural capital of Hilalian Orc world, as the name implies, and many of the culture's rituals and behaviours centre around the city. Hilal is often also called the home of Necromancy.

Demographics

The majority of the cities inhabitants are made out of Orcs, and the city is not particularly culturally diverse. But even still there are some inhabitants of non-orcish decent. Most of these inhabitants are either students from the Hilalian school of Necrotic Powers or refuges who are hunted by religious fanatics and asked the city for sanctuary.   The only race that is straight up blocked from entering the city are the Dragonborn, who the citizens fear will switch sides and attack from within during an dragon-kin raid.

Architecture

The houses in Hilal are made with locally sourced lava rocks, giving the city a beautiful black look. The buildings themselves vary between lavish houses and dark forbidden study towers.

Geography

The city of Hilal stand between the two tips of the crescent mountains. The crescent mountains are a range of old steep vulcanoes that over time have gained sharp fang-like tips. The range circles around the wastes of Ishtarr in a crescent, giving it it's name.   Their hight and steepness have made them a natural rain barrier, which the Hilalians use to their advantage by building aquaducts on the rain side which then flows down into the city.
