Green Manta

Green Mantas are a type of fish which roams the grasslands of Brabantsia. These majestic rays has adapted to life on land with the use of a symbiotic species of grass which grows on their backs. This grass allows them to breath on land and serves as a type of camouflage.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Green Mantas have flat bodies with eyes on the sides of their head. The skin on their upper body is covered in thousands of tiny pores from which the symbiotic layer of grass grows that allows it to breath on land. The underside of the body is covered in a thick layer of mucus to allow the creature to move around the ground. In nature this grass usually matches to the undergrowth of the area as a form of camouflage. The underside of the green Mantas is a pale grey colour.

Growth Rate & Stages

When a green manta hatches it instinctively rises to the surface of the water. There it lays motionless until enough grass spores have filled its pores to allow it to breath on land.

Ecology and Habitats

As a fish the Green Manta needs to constantly stay moist to stay healthy. Usually this is no problem in the wet climate of Brabantsia and its not uncommon for a Green Manta to life its entire life without ever needing to go into the water to get wet. However they still need to return to the water to reproduce and lay their eggs.

Additional Information

Domestication

Green Mantas are prestigious mounts in and around Brabantsia only kept by a few specialised breeders. Domesticated Green Mantas grow lime green grass so their caretakers can easily find their animals back. Those keeping Green Mantas have to make sure their animals get enough water to stay hydrated or face weltering creatures. Green Mantas are very popular with the Druids from the Order of the Wieven and with lower members of Brabantsian royalty. Green mantas are ridden by standing on their backs and commanding the creature to go by pulling on its reins.
