Whaeyagaard

Whaeyagaard, once known as Whayago, lies in the heart of the chaotic Surging Plains, an area known for its ever-shifting landscapes and erratic wild magic. Abandoned after the 2nd Pandora War, the settlement was recently reclaimed by the Kender people, who have found comfort and a strange sense of belonging amidst the wild magic. The Kender have embraced the unpredictable nature of the Plains, finding opportunity and adventure in its chaotic winds. Now, Whaeyagaard is a bustling town filled with life, curiosity, and constant motion, with its inhabitants constantly adapting to their volatile environment.

Demographics

75% Kender, 10% Simic Hybrids, 10% Verdan, 5% Others (humanoids, travelers, and adventurers)

Government

Whaeyagaard has no formal government, instead embracing a loose leadership known as the Circle of Wanderers, which includes prominent Kender adventurers and respected community figures. Decisions are made through open discussion, with little formal hierarchy. A local Kender named Thistle Quickfingers often takes the role of spokesperson, though leadership tends to shift as frequently as the tides of magic that surround the town.

Defences

Whaeyagaard lacks formal walls or military defenses, but the natural chaotic energy of the Surging Plains acts as its primary protection. The Runestone Spires around the town help direct and tame the wild magic, but the erratic nature of the Plains deters invaders. Kender adventurers, skilled in guerrilla tactics and quick to escape danger, defend the town in case of threat, using the landscape's instability to their advantage.

Many structures are semi-mobile, designed to change with the landscape, and magically shielded from the worst surges of energy. Roads and pathways appear and disappear, often reshaped by the surrounding magic, but the Kender have developed an intuitive way of navigating these changes, marking locations with bioluminescent stone markers that shift in color when pathways shift.
