Pastel Prarie

The Pastel Prairie is an enchanting yet dangerous grassland in Astrium, known for its stunning and surreal landscape. Vast expanses of soft, multi-colored grasses stretch across the rolling hills and sink into deep valleys, giving the region its ethereal, dreamlike quality. The prairie's grass and trees shimmer with various pastel shades—pinks, purples, blues, and yellows—that seem almost magical, enticing travelers with their beauty. However, this captivating beauty hides many dangers. In the Pastel Prairie, the brighter the color of the plant, animal, or water, the more perilous it becomes. Streams of fluorescent water run through the prairie, glowing with soft colors as they feed into the Marblehaven Divide, losing their vivid hues as they meet the ocean. The trees are just as vibrant, their leaves changing color with the seasons. Yet some of the most vividly colored trees are not trees at all—they are malevolent spirits that lure the unwary to their doom. Even the clouds that hang low over the prairie can be treacherous, hiding pitfalls that drop into unseen valleys.   Despite these dangers, the Fairy and Harengon people have made this land their home. Living in the settlement of Prillock, they have learned to navigate the dangers of the prairie with speed, cunning, and knowledge passed down through generations. Life in the Pastel Prairie is one of constant vigilance, but also of breathtaking beauty and wonder.
  • Everlight - Shrine of the Dawn’s Mercy
Nestled within a gentle valley in the Pastel Prairie, the Shrine of the Dawn’s Mercy is a small yet serene sanctuary surrounded by wildflowers and the soothing sounds of nearby streams. The open-air structure is constructed from soft, rose-colored stones, draped with golden cloth that flows in the prairie’s breeze. Visitors gather at sunrise to witness the first light touching the shrine, symbolizing Sarenrae’s ever-present mercy. Here, wanderers and villagers alike pause to meditate, seeking Sarenrae's guidance and the promise of redemption. Offerings of flowers, water, and personal tokens are left behind, asking for healing or forgiveness, while the priests tend a gentle flame that’s rekindled each dawn.
  • Feyshrine of the Glade – Pastel Prairie Tucked away in the serene landscapes of the Pastel Prairie, the Feyshrine of the Glade is a quiet, enchanting sanctuary where the veil between the material plane and the Feywild is thin. This shrine is unassuming yet deeply magical, consisting of a smooth, crescent-shaped stone altar encircled by ancient trees and vibrant flora, with flowers that pulse with gentle magical energy. Intricate elven runes are carved into the stone, invoking Corellon’s blessings of inspiration and creativity. It is believed that Corellon’s essence can be felt most strongly here, and many journey to this sacred place to meditate, find inspiration, and seek guidance in their artistic and arcane pursuits. Travelers bring tokens of creativity, such as feathers, bits of woven fabric, and charms, to leave as offerings. The shrine glows under moonlight, and during special celestial events, the forest around it shimmers with fey energy, reflecting Corellon’s boundless beauty.

Geography

The Pastel Prarie is a shallow grassland filled with many colourful grasses and cloudland which stretch up into hills or sink down into valleys. The water seems flourescent and colourful and feeds into the ocean through the marblehaven divide, where it loses its vivid colour. The trees seem to take on multi-coloured hues with sweet aromas; but be warned.... the brigher the colours the more dangerous the tree, animal or even water is.   With low laying clouds leading to pitfalls through to bright pastel pink trees being malevolent spirits, the Fairy and the Harengon who call this place home know how to avoid the dangers if they are quick and cunning enough.   The Pastel Prairie stretches across a vast expanse of rolling hills, vibrant valleys, and shimmering lakes: Cloudspun Hills dominate the northern expanse, their pastel grasses veiled in low-lying clouds. In the central prairie lies Shimmering Lake, a glowing body of water surrounded by dazzling, multicolored foliage. The Phantom Meadow lurks to the east, a dangerous region of illusion and malevolent spirits. The settlement of Prillock, tucked into a hidden valley, serves as a sanctuary for the Fairy and Harengon communities. Streams of glowing, pastel-hued water weave through the landscape, feeding into the Marblehaven Divide and adding to the prairie’s ethereal charm.

Ecosystem

The ecosystem of the Pastel Prairie is an intricate balance of natural beauty and magical danger:
  • Flora thrives in vibrant pastel hues, with some plants providing vital resources while others hide deadly traps.
  • Fauna ranges from gentle, bioluminescent herbivores to predatory creatures that have adapted to blend with the prairie’s vibrant colors, making them difficult to spot.
  • Symbiosis between plants and animals is common, with some species relying on bioluminescent markers to signal safety or danger.

Ecosystem Cycles

The cycles of the Pastel Prairie are heavily influenced by its magical essence:
  • Radiant Bloom Season: During this time, plants burst into vivid, shifting colors, creating an unparalleled spectacle of light and life. However, predators also become more active, drawn by the abundance of prey.
  • Fading Hues Season: The colors of the prairie dim slightly, allowing for easier navigation but signaling a time of dormancy for some of its less aggressive fauna.

Localized Phenomena

The entire prarie appears a pastel colour, the longer you spend in the area your features and colours temporarily changes to become more fey and whimsical.
  • Color Warding: The intensity of a plant or creature’s color indicates its danger level; brighter hues often mean venom, illusions, or aggression.
  • Glowmists: Low-hanging, bioluminescent mists roll across the prairie at night, creating stunning visuals but disorienting those who lack experience navigating them.
  • Shimmering Streams: These glowing waterways seem magical, but many carry enchantments that cause temporary euphoria or disorientation, making them dangerous to drink from unfiltered.

Climate

The Pastel Prairie experiences a temperate climate with mild temperatures and steady rainfall, ensuring the land remains lush and vibrant. Seasonal shifts bring dramatic color changes, with spring and autumn being the most visually stunning. Occasional magical storms, remnants of the Realmshatter, ripple across the landscape, leaving temporary shifts in color and energy.

Fauna & Flora

Glowmantis Description: The Glowmantis is a large, mantis-like predator with pastel, translucent wings that shimmer in sunlight. Its body is adorned with bioluminescent markings, which change color based on its mood or level of aggression. Behavior: Glowmantises are ambush predators that blend seamlessly into the colorful landscape. They use their glowing patterns to hypnotize prey before striking with lightning speed. Their wings are prized by artisans and enchanters for their beauty and faint magical properties. Danger Level: Moderate—non-aggressive unless provoked. 2. Mirage Wyvernettes Description: These small, serpentine dragons are no larger than a hawk and are covered in iridescent scales that shimmer like a heat mirage. Their wings are thin and pastel-colored, and their eyes glow faintly in low light. Behavior: Wyvernettes are playful and curious but can be dangerous if they feel threatened. They emit a soft, melodious hum as they fly, which can cause mild hallucinations or drowsiness in those who listen for too long. Unique Traits: They feed on insects and the nectar of brightly colored flowers. Their hum is often collected and bottled by Fairies for its soothing, sleep-inducing qualities. Danger Level: Low, though their illusions can be disorienting. 3. They are scavengers, feeding on small prey and magical plant detritus, but they are also known to mislead predators and humans alike with their flickering, glowing tails. Unique Traits: Pastelcloaks can "cloak" themselves by blending with the colors of their surroundings, making them nearly invisible. Their fur is a sought-after material for crafting illusionary cloaks and camouflage gear. Danger Level: Low, though they are known to lead the unwary into dangerous areas out of mischief.

History

With the attempt of the Aurora Coven to move the Feywild to the material plane; a mysterious heavy fog made its way from the seelie swamp over the whispering alps before settling just north of the gargantuan pinnalce. The settling fog changed the landscape; mutating the trees, plant life and riverscape into bright pastel colours that twist and permeate all around.   Where the fog did land happens to be where the mountain range where the sin of Wrath had destroyed the scape leaving behind the a mulitude of beasts to scour the land. Althought soft and colourful the environment is anything but. It has been home for a vast amount of brightly coloured monstrosities that call that place home changing their physicality to be more elusive and magical.   Today, Fairy and the Harengon people are working tirelessly to establish trade routes to bring more trade and tourism their way. They have established a zoo and a circus using the animals and beasts found within the prarie. They hope to have a named settlement named one day for their town they call Prillock (after Pastel, prism, hillock).

Tourism

The prairie’s surreal beauty and rare resources draw adventurers, scholars, and artists:
  • Prillock offers safe lodgings and vibrant markets where visitors can trade for unique dyes, herbs, and enchanted items.
  • Guided tours of Cloudspun Hills and Luminwood Grove showcase the prairie’s wonders while avoiding its perils.
  • Daredevils are drawn to the Phantom Meadow and Shimmering Lake, seeking rare treasures despite the risks.
Points of Interest Prillock The settlement of Prillock is a vibrant town where the Fairy and Harengon live in harmony with the land, using their agility and quick wit to survive the dangers of the prairie. The homes are built in hollowed-out trees, glowing with bioluminescent colors at night, and are suspended on the edges of valleys, blending perfectly into the landscape. Prillock is famous for its pastel-hued markets, where merchants trade in exotic fruits, herbs, and natural dyes harvested from the prairie's more benign flora. The people of Prillock are experts in using the natural world to their advantage. Their hunters and scouts can spot the dangerous creatures and plants by their intense colors, while their artisans craft everything from enchanted garments to delicate, glowing jewelry made from the rarest materials found in the prairie.   The Shimmering Lake One of the most mesmerizing yet dangerous places in the Pastel Prairie is the Shimmering Lake. The lake's waters glow with soft, pastel hues of pink, blue, and violet, and it is surrounded by tall, pastel trees whose leaves shimmer in the wind. The lake is said to have magical properties—those who drink from it may gain a temporary boost in speed or strength, but the water is also known to be highly addictive and can cause strange and dangerous hallucinations. Many travelers have been drawn to the lake’s hypnotic beauty, only to disappear, either entranced by the lake’s magic or attacked by the malevolent spirits that dwell in its depths. The Fairies of Prillock have woven protective wards around the area, but even they avoid getting too close without proper precautions.   The Luminwood Grove Luminwood Grove is a sacred place for the inhabitants of the prairie, an ancient forest filled with pastel-hued trees that give off a soft glow at night. Unlike other parts of the prairie, the grove is relatively safe, and its trees are known for their healing properties. The Fairy Druids of Prillock come here to commune with the land, and it is said that the grove is watched over by ancient nature spirits who protect it from the malevolent forces that haunt the rest of the prairie. The leaves of the Luminwood Trees are highly sought after, as they can be used to craft potent healing potions and enchantments. However, only the druids are permitted to harvest them, as they know the secret rites needed to approach the trees without angering the spirits.   The Phantom Meadow The Phantom Meadow is a particularly dangerous part of the prairie, where the air is thick with illusionary magic. The bright pink and purple trees that grow here are actually malevolent spirits in disguise, waiting to ensnare travelers who wander too close. The Fairies and Harengon know to avoid the meadow during the day when the illusions are strongest, though some brave souls venture in at night when the spirits are less active to gather rare herbs and flowers that can only be found in this dangerous place. Strange phantom creatures roam the meadow, appearing and disappearing in flashes of color, and those who wander too far into the meadow often find themselves lost, unable to distinguish reality from illusion. Despite the danger, many adventurers are drawn here by rumors of hidden treasures and ancient relics left behind by forgotten civilizations.   Cloudspun Hills The Cloudspun Hills are rolling hills covered in soft, pastel-colored grasses that sway gently in the wind. These hills are named for the low-hanging clouds that often blanket the landscape, giving it an otherworldly, dreamlike appearance. The clouds, however, hide dangerous pitfalls that can drop travelers into deep, hidden valleys. Only those who know the landscape well can safely navigate the Cloudspun Hills, and the Harengon scouts of Prillock are often called upon to guide travelers through this region. Beneath the hills are rumored to be ancient tunnels and caverns, said to hold forgotten relics of the Realmshatter Era. The Fairies believe that some of these caverns may lead to hidden gateways to the Feywild, though none have yet been found.   The Pastel Prairie is a place of striking beauty and peril, where the natural world seems to shimmer with magic. The Fairy and Harengon people have made this land their own, learning to survive in harmony with the landscape’s dangers while thriving amidst its beauty. Though treacherous, the Pastel Prairie remains a land of mystery, wonder, and opportunity for those daring enough to explore its vibrant terrain.
