Iobil

Iobil, an island within the Swirling Peninsula, bears the scars of a dark past. It was once a place of exile, where the victims of Coalacium's experimentation in 582 AD were sent, cast out after being injected with blood tainted by lycanthropy. These prisoners were meant to fuel the bloodsport of beast-man arena combat, but instead, they created a lineage of Shifters—humanoids who developed the ability to partially transform into bestial forms. Over generations, they mastered their curse, turning it into a powerful asset. Today, Iobil is home to the city of Lyranthra, a place known for its unusually wealthy population, despite its small size. Lyranthra thrives on the export of mushrooms and exotic spices, and its people—while not having a formal militia—are all trained to defend their island. Every citizen of Lyranthra is prepared to fight when the need arises, and their shifting abilities make them a formidable force, even without military organization.   Points of Interest The Moonveil Grove The Moonveil Grove is a sacred, mist-shrouded forest on Iobil where the Shifters come to meditate, train, and connect with their bestial ancestors. The trees here are unusually tall, their trunks pale and shimmering under the light of the moon. Bioluminescent mushrooms thrive in this enchanted grove, casting a soft glow that provides a mystical atmosphere. It is said that in this grove, the Shifters can fully embrace their transformations, gaining temporary enhancements to their strength, speed, and senses. The grove also serves as a place of ritual, where new members of the community undergo rites to control their shifting abilities. Visitors who enter without the permission of the Shifters often find themselves lost in the maze-like forest, never to be seen again.   The Spice Bazaar The Spice Bazaar in Lyranthra is the economic heart of the island, a bustling marketplace filled with exotic spices, rare herbs, and unique mushrooms that only grow in Iobil's peculiar ecosystem. Traders from across Astrium come to this isolated island to purchase its rare goods, known for their medicinal and alchemical properties. The bazaar itself is a colorful, vibrant area, filled with the scent of fragrant spices and the sounds of lively bargaining. Though the people of Lyranthra are welcoming to outsiders in the bazaar, they remain wary, and those who overstep their bounds may quickly find themselves facing the island’s unusual defense tactics.   The Shifting Arena Although beast-man arena combat is no longer practiced in Iobil, the Shifting Arena stands as a reminder of the island’s dark origins. Originally built to contain and control the victims of Coalacium's experiments, the arena has since been repurposed into a training ground for the Shifters. Here, they hone their skills in combat and shifting, practicing in mock battles and duels to ensure they are prepared to defend their home. The arena itself is an impressive structure, with ancient stonework that bears the scars of countless battles. During festivals and special events, the people of Lyranthra gather to watch friendly competitions, showcasing the mastery of their transformations. Outsiders are occasionally invited to participate, though few can match the speed and power of the Shifters in their home arena.   The Bloodstone Obelisk At the center of Lyranthra stands the Bloodstone Obelisk, a towering monument made of dark red stone, said to have been erected by the first generation of Shifters. The obelisk is imbued with ancient magic, and it is believed to be tied to the bloodline of the Shifters themselves, acting as a magical anchor that helps them control their transformations. During times of great need, the Shifters gather around the obelisk to perform rituals that draw upon its power, enhancing their abilities and granting them temporary immunity to the effects of the full moon. The obelisk is heavily guarded, and its secrets are closely guarded by the island's most powerful shamans and mystics.   The Tanglewood Fortress Nestled deep in the dense forests that cover much of Iobil, the Tanglewood Fortress is a natural citadel formed by thick, interwoven trees and vines. Though not a conventional fortress made of stone or metal, it is a formidable defense point for the Shifters. The fortress is hidden from view, blending seamlessly into the forest, and only those with an intimate knowledge of the land can find it. It serves as a sanctuary during times of invasion or crisis, and within its walls, the Shifters can regroup, plan their defenses, and heal. The fortress is also used as a training ground for younger Shifters, where they learn to survive in the wild and to master their shifting abilities.   Iobil is a unique island with a rich history of struggle, transformation, and survival. Its people, though few in number, are strong and resilient, thriving in isolation while defending their home from external threats. The island’s combination of nature, magic, and self-reliance has created a society that is deeply connected to both the natural world and their own inner power.
