High Elf

Sun Elves - Gold Elves; Sunrise Elves   Moon Elves - Silver Elves; Gray Elves   Forest Elders

Basic Information

Anatomy

High Elves have the signature slender build of their kind, with elegant and elongated features that embody an almost ethereal beauty. Both subraces have pointed ears, angular bone structure, and an inherent grace in movement. Sun Elves often have bronzed or golden-hued skin, complemented by hair that ranges from lustrous gold and copper to jet black. Their eyes shimmer in shades of gold, silver, or deep onyx. In contrast, Moon Elves have pale, alabaster skin with a subtle bluish tint, with hair of silver, white, or muted colors like midnight blue. Their eyes are blue or green with flecks of gold, reflecting their deep connection to the night and the lunar cycle.

Genetics and Reproduction

High Elves have a genetic lineage rich with magical potency. Their children inherit traits based on their parentage, and there is a strong emphasis on the purity of magical lineage. Their long lifespans and slow reproductive rates ensure that each new generation is cherished and raised with immense care. Interbreeding between Sun and Moon Elves is rare but possible, and the offspring may inherit a blend of features from both subraces.

Ecology and Habitats

High Elves thrive in lush, forested environments, such as the Cyankadi Forest, which is infused with primal magic. The forest provides both shelter and a source of magical energy. They use their magic to live in harmony with nature, shaping trees into elegant homes and blending their structures seamlessly with the natural environment. Sun Elves prefer living in areas where sunlight streams abundantly through the forest canopy, while Moon Elves often dwell in shaded groves illuminated by the soft glow of bioluminescent flora.

Behaviour

High Elves are contemplative and wise, often devoting their lives to the pursuit of knowledge and the mastery of magic. They have a deep reverence for nature and the ancient traditions of their people. Sun Elves are more outgoing and sociable, with a prideful demeanor that reflects their cultural achievements. Moon Elves are more reserved and introspective, valuing quiet reflection and the mysteries of the night. Both subraces share a love for art, music, and the arcane, but Sun Elves are more likely to engage with other races, while Moon Elves prefer to remain secluded.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

High Elves have enhanced vision, allowing them to see exceptionally well in low-light conditions. They possess acute hearing and a sensitivity to magic, often able to sense the ebb and flow of arcane energy in their surroundings. Moon Elves are particularly attuned to nocturnal magic, with a heightened awareness during the night, while Sun Elves resonate more with solar magic and feel invigorated under daylight.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Names are melodic and often inspired by nature and the celestial. Sun Elves favor names like Solari, Aurelius, or Elanor, while Moon Elves prefer names like Selene, Lunara, or Thalor. Family names are tied to their heritage, such as Goldenleaf, Moonwhisper, or Starlight.

Beauty Ideals

legance and natural grace are highly prized. Sun Elves admire a radiant and commanding presence, while Moon Elves appreciate a serene and mysterious beauty. Both subraces favor long, flowing hair and intricate tattoos or markings that glow with magic.

Gender Ideals

Gender roles are not rigid among High Elves, and individuals are respected for their skills and magical prowess rather than their gender. Both males and females are expected to contribute equally to society, whether as scholars, warriors, or healers.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship is a delicate dance of magic and nature. Sun Elves engage in grand, poetic declarations of love under the sun’s glow, while Moon Elves prefer quiet, intimate ceremonies under the moonlight. Gifts of magical items or rare natural treasures are common.

Relationship Ideals

High Elves form deep and meaningful bonds, often marrying for love and partnership rather than convenience. They value loyalty, shared purpose, and a deep understanding of each other's souls. Relationships are often seen as spiritual as well as emotional.

Common Etiquette Rules

Respect for elders and the arcane arts is paramount. Interrupting a meditation session or spellcasting ritual is a grave offense. Hospitality is sacred, and guests are treated with reverence. However, outsiders must be cautious not to break Elven customs, as doing so can lead to swift retribution.

Common Dress Code

Clothing is made from natural fibers, infused with magic to shimmer or change color with the environment. Sun Elves wear bright, flowing robes adorned with gold or copper accents, while Moon Elves prefer soft, shadowy hues with silver embellishments. Jewelry made from natural materials, such as leaves, moonstones, or sun gems, is common.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

High Elves hold onto ancient traditions, including songspells (magical songs) and the practice of Linselenna—a ritual that honors the forest and ancestors. Festivals like the Dawning Celebration for Sun Elves and the Night’s Embrace for Moon Elves are significant events that bring the community together.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Seasonal rituals tied to the forest and lunar phases are common. The Ceremony of Rebirth is held at the Genesis Tree to commemorate the Pandora War’s victims. Meditation in sacred groves and studying under the tutelage of arcane masters are essential parts of daily life.

Common Taboos

Disrespecting the Genesis Tree or using destructive magic on nature is unforgivable. Practicing necromancy or defiling ancestral grounds is considered a severe transgression. High Elves also disdain reckless usage of magic and view it as a violation of the natural balance.

History

History: High Elves are the descendants of the original elves who once inhabited the great forest of Aspor. They established Lin'Selvéar, the City of the Sacred Trees, which thrived until the Pandora War devastated their homeland. After their fall, they migrated to Cyankadi and built a new city around the Genesis Tree, symbolizing rebirth and hope. The Pandora War left a deep scar on their society, but it also forged their determination to preserve their way of life.

Common Myths and Legends

The legend of Sylvanar, the first High Elf king who brokered peace with the dragons, is told across generations. Tales of The Weeping Forest, a grove where spirits mourn the fallen, serve as a reminder of the price of pride.
