Gastrua
Gastrua is a remarkable island located within the swirling peninsula, a region shaped by the chaotic forces that once threatened to tear the landscape apart. Long ago, during the formation of the Swirling Peninsula, a circle of druids sacrificed themselves to infuse their essence into the land itself, halting the destructive vortex and preventing the creation of yet another sinkhole in Astrium. Their power is ever-present in the soil, ensuring that nature thrives and integrates effortlessly with any technological advancements on the island.
Since 200AD, Gastrua has been the home of the Simic Hybrids, a species renowned for their ability to blend biology with technology in ways unseen anywhere else in the world. The island has also become a beacon of military advancement, with human and elven soldiers volunteering for mutation-enhancement programs to face world-threatening dangers like the Sins. This blending of biotechnology and martial prowess has made Gastrua a coveted location for scientists, soldiers, and scholars alike.
At the heart of this ever-evolving island is the growing settlement of Morphaelum, a city of living architecture, bioluminescent coral, and adaptive society where the lines between nature, technology, and biology have blurred into a harmonious balance.
Points of Interest
The Verdant Nexus
The Verdant Nexus is a massive living structure at the heart of Morphaelum, grown entirely from a combination of ancient trees, coral reefs, and bioengineered vines. It serves as the city's council hall, where the leaders of the Simic Hybrids gather to make decisions about the future of Gastrua. The structure is alive, pulsating with bioluminescence, and constantly reshaping itself as it grows in response to the needs of the community. The druids’ essence is strongest here, and visitors claim they can feel the life force of the long-gone circle reverberating through the living walls.
The Amphibious Forge
A marvel of biotechnology and craftsmanship, the Amphibious Forge is where the Simic Hybrids' weaponry and armor are created. This forge uses naturally occurring energy from geothermal vents combined with biomaterials that grow stronger under pressure, creating lightweight but incredibly durable armor. The weaponry forged here has natural enhancements, such as growing sharper over time or regenerating if damaged. Visitors are often awestruck at how seamlessly the organic and mechanical processes are interwoven, producing tools of war that feel like living organisms.
The Druidic Synthesis Grove
Located near the center of the island, the Druidic Synthesis Grove is a tranquil and sacred place where the druidic magic of the land is harnessed for technological and biological advancements. Large trees with vibrant, glowing leaves spiral upward from the grove, their roots extending deep into the earth, where they channel the essence of the fallen druids. The Grove is a center of research for scientists and shamans alike, who work together to create new biotechnological enhancements and nature-fused machines. It is also a place of pilgrimage for those who wish to commune with the spirits of the land or seek inspiration for new breakthroughs.
The Genesis Pools
A hidden valley on Gastrua contains the Genesis Pools, a series of warm, glowing biological pools where soldiers undergo their mutation enhancements. The water in these pools is rich in regenerative properties, extracted from the plants and bioluminescent organisms that flourish in the unique ecosystem. The mutation process is a ritual, requiring both physical and mental preparation, as those who enter the pools are forever changed. While the enhancements make them stronger and more resilient, the process is irreversible, making it a profound and life-altering decision.
The Ruins of the Spiraled Circle
This once-sacred site was the meeting place of the ancient druids before they gave their lives to stop the formation of the sinkhole. Now in ruins, it is a place of solemn reverence, where twisted roots and ancient stone monuments still pulse with the lingering power of the fallen circle. The Ruins of the Spiraled Circle are often visited by those seeking insight into the ancient magics that still permeate the land. It is said that on certain nights, one can hear whispers from the spirits of the druids, offering guidance or cryptic warnings.
Gastrua stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of nature, magic, and biotechnology. It is a place of continual evolution, where life and technology intertwine, driving forward the unique advancements of its people while preserving the druidic legacy that saved the land centuries ago. Morphaelum, the thriving hub of this island, is a shining example of what can be achieved when science and nature work together, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
Geography
The island’s geography is diverse and shaped by its magical origins:
The Verdant Nexus lies at its heart, a massive living structure that serves as the seat of power and the center of governance.
The Genesis Pools, located in a secluded valley, house the island’s mutation-enhancement rituals.
The coastline is jagged and vibrant, with coral reefs that pulse with bioluminescence, protecting the island from storms and invaders.
Towering cliffs rise on the southern shore, with the Ruins of the Spiraled Circle nestled among them, serving as a reminder of the druids' sacrifice.
Ecosystem
Gastrua boasts a highly unique ecosystem where nature and biotechnology are inseparably linked:
- Symbiotic Flora: Trees and plants are often hybridized with arcane energy, enabling them to self-heal or adapt to environmental changes.
- Engineered Fauna: The wildlife includes genetically enhanced creatures, some bred for utility, others as guardians of the land. The animals and plants coexist in a delicate balance, with Simic Hybrids constantly refining this relationship.
Ecosystem Cycles
The ecosystem operates on an accelerated cycle influenced by the island’s infused magic:
- Rapid Growth Seasons: Bioluminescent vegetation grows at astounding rates, providing abundant resources but requiring careful harvesting to avoid overgrowth.
- Dormant Phases: Periods of stillness occur when the land absorbs magical energy, temporarily halting visible growth but enriching the soil for the next cycle.
Localized Phenomena
- Bioluminescent Tides: At night, the waters surrounding Gastrua glow with an eerie blue light caused by the hybrid coral reefs that line its coasts.
- Living Architecture: Buildings in Morphaelum are grown rather than constructed, with structures adapting to the needs of their inhabitants.
- The Verdant Resonance: The island pulses faintly with the energy of the fallen druids, providing subtle magical benefits such as accelerated healing or enhanced awareness to those who dwell here.
Climate
The climate is mild and temperate, with abundant rainfall sustaining the island's lush vegetation. Occasional magical storms ripple through the skies, remnants of the Realmshatter’s lingering effects. These storms often bring bursts of energy that invigorate the land but can also disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
Fauna & Flora
Flora:
- Glowelm Trees: Massive trees with glowing sap that hum faintly with magical energy, used in biotechnological advancements.
- Mana Blossoms: Flowers that absorb ambient magic, blooming in vibrant, ever-changing colors.

- Luminafish: Bioluminescent fish that thrive in the coral reefs, often harvested for their magical scales.
Natural Resources
- Glowvine Sap: A potent bioluminescent substance used in both magic and technology.
- Coralsteel: A hybrid material derived from bioluminescent coral, combining flexibility and immense durability, ideal for armor and tools.
History
When the Swirling peninsula was seperated from the mainland forcing the land mass to swirl and split, a circle of druids laid down their lives to infuse their essence into land itself to stop the swirling and creation of another sinkhole in Astrium.
This part of the island was the sacred land of the circle of druids, so nature continues to thrive and stay alive. It has seemlessly become apart of any technology, interweaving and reinforcing it to be stronger.
Since the year 200AD, Gastrua has been the home of the Simic Hybrids, and more recently home to the a new settlement vying for city named rights - Morphaelum.
Today the Swirling Pensinsula is visited as a haven for scientists and soldiers alike with a combination of biotechnology and military tactics that are only seen here due to the unique nature of the the soldiers there
Home to the humans and elf soldiers who volunteered for a mutation enhancement program so they could face threats like the Sins who attacked about a century and a half before. Gastrua has natural enhancements to technology with nature seamlessly blending into the metal work provided here.
