Simyte

Simytes are light green crystals used for forming a force field like enclosure on a Space Whales saddle. The whale absorbs the magic in the stones which is why they crack and eventually break. They can only be found in areas where planes intersect. This is where they get their magical properties. They are most found near fairy portals when searching on the surface. There is a giant Simyte deposit in the human kingdom of Esterdragon, which also happens to be the area where the fey wild bleeds into the material plane the most. This deposit does not have many of the rarer stones. They’ve found 3 in the 100 years they’ve been harvesting. While there are many Simytes in Esterdragon, they are still considered a finite resource and sold for a high price (around 10-15 gold pieces) a full crystal is good for 3 round trips. Simyte shards cost around 2-5 gold pieces. 2 gp will take you one way and 5 gp will get you a round trip. Each “trip” is considered to take you to the end of the space whales’ “route” in the solar system. If you plan to travel to another galaxy, you need a green space whale with a rare Simyte. This will get you to your desired galaxy and back before it starts to crack. Once a stone cracks you have maybe one or two more uses before it is completely useless. Merchants offer a “pooling system” where they charge a set price for the days gone on the mission which provides the shards or stones to travel safely to these areas with no worries about the saddle enclosure failing. Shards can only be used on the blue space whales while the full stones can be used on either passenger class whale (blue or green). Cargo class whales (purple) require the use of the rare stones which are found where the air elemental plane intersects with Eldpoirse. Oddly these intersections are usually underwater. Adventurers are contracted to find these “pockets” and can spot them by air bubbles that are formed by the crystals force field like properties. The rarer crystals have more of a translucent blue color and are larger than those found on the surface. Rare stones range anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand gold pieces depending on their size.
