Kingdom of Amentis

The Kingdom of Amentis

" The wall serves as the bulwark that has brokered our peace with the rest of the world. It is the symbol of us Amentians, and without the wall that protects us we are naught but sheep sent to the wolves for slaughter." - Sir Yeffsen Highever
The Kingdom of Amentis was a small Kingdom resting upon the Amentian Peninsula, cut off from the rest of Asterra by the great wall a thousand years ago by great magicians who gave their lives creating it. For this last thousand years the people of Amentis had known true peace and prosperity. Their land was fertile and lush, and was now well protected against the horror that was the Orcish Green Sea settled in the far north. Their great wall kept many an invasion or raid at bay, being manned consistently by Amentis' only standing army. To work near the wall was considered a privileged among privileges. The King himself often contracted great masons and engineers from across the realm to maintain the wall, but all fell into disarray as the last king died without an heir. A great power struggle would ensue that slowly choked the prosperous Kingdom, taking resources away from the wall as smaller rebellions propped themselves up among the reigning noble families in Amentis.   It was during this time, in the Moran Calendar Year 576, that strange occurrences began happening all around Amentis. Monsters of all natures began cropping up, and rumors of a great orc raiding party making its way to the wall began to stir the country into political collapse. It was around this time that the heroes of Amentis would begin their noble tales in the small village of Oceanhorn, helping the local populace and learning of these dire rumors before heading to the capital with the goal of helping the old King's most trusted Advisor, Lord Hawley. To earn Hawley's trust, the heroes had to set off to across Amentis and help bring some form of unity to the land before they set fourth to the wall to hopefully put an end to the army that was amassing there. An effervescent red sphere has descended upon the wall, and due to the acts of Alexander the Traitor, the heroes were ultimately subdued atop the wall. As the heroes breathed their last, a great red dragon scorched the lands north of the Kingdom into searing molten earth as the People of Amentis faced absolute destruction.

Customs and Traditions

"And we only saw fit that each King of Amentis carry the three regalia; The Crown, the Scepter and the Sword. If one wished to challenge the current King, they would first need be deemed worthy of carrying all three regalia. Though, the sword alone carries much weight, as only a true heir can wield it without the other two regalia. " -Lord Fredrick Hawley, Battle of the Wall
Amentis often seems isolated compared to the nations just outside its borders. Amentis rarely allows for travel to and from its lands, and only trades with other nations on rare occasions. It was a Kingdom that relied solely on itself for all matters. Even it's people were raised to be very individualistic, creating many an entrepreneur in each of its cities. If one sought knowledge, one was more than welcomed into the great library that sat inside the capital's well protected walls. Even those who wished to study the arcane were free to do so within the library, and most schools of magic were perfectly acceptable in Amentis. The only School that was banned across Amentis was Necromancy, as it broke the teachings of both The Mother and The Father.   The Patron of choice in Amentis was by far The Mother, Ellymlean. Many temples across the peninsula were built in dedication to her worship, and many farmers believed her to be the Patron of fertility and good harvests, making her worship wide-spread. In Amentis many believed each meal to have been personally blessed by Ellymlean, so that they may eat the food in the first place. Because of this, many meals are started with prayer in dedication to the Patron of Life, and many funerals are served in dedication to her counterpart: The Father.

Courtship and Marriage

In Amentis there are two ways one might go about marriage. The aristocrats of Amentis make a challenge of courting, whereas the commonfolk think little of it, openly choosing who to partner with and requesting the local Lord's permission to wed. To the higher classes, or those looking to court higher class ladies of Amentis one must instead embark on a small expedition to procure the Crimson Feather of the rare and illustrious Amentian Cockatrice. On this expedition it is often frowned upon to slay the Cockatrice, as they are only found high on the bluffs of Mt.Alm and are typically low in number. Many hire adventurers to retrieve the feathers for them, but even this is greatly frowned upon, for if one is to show their love to a lady of Amentis it is believed one must show their dedication through this hardship. This still does not stop poachers from collecting and counterfeiting these red feathers on the streets for even the commonfolk to partake in the rituals of old. The red feathers obtained in this way are often woven into a beautiful headdress for the woman to wear on her wedding day.
