Eliander Fireborn

Eliandril Al’tora (a.k.a. Eliander Fireborn)

Overview

Eliander fought in the now-disbanded Oscalan Navy, where he earned a name driving the wild things away from settled lands. Eliander suffered a tremendous injury to his leg in a battle against an owlbear and now walks upon a finely carved metal peg. After meeting the Wayward Warriors, he resigned from his post with Saltmarsh to travel with them as a guide and mentor. Their relationship was challenged at times due to mistrust, but in the end, he became a trusted ally to the adventurers.

Personal History

Eliandril Al’tora was born to a peasant family in Alvari. He is the child of a human man and half-elf woman, making him a quarter-elf. He tends not to share this fact about himself, as he has always identified with his human heritage. Eliandril showed an affinity for magic at a young age and was quickly recruited by House Scythemore to become a student at the Academy of La'thuma. He attended the academy until the age of 20 when he "dropped out" and fled the country to Oscala. Prior to his departure, he had a relationship with one of his classmates, a woman named Tessa Vebrosar. Both were excellent students and scored remarkably well on both written and practical exams. They showed such extraordinary talent that they were selected to join a special confidential program known as “the Foundation”. This particular program utilized the most powerful academy students as arcane enforcers that carried out “the will of the nation.”   Much of the work carried out by the Foundation was completely covert and unknown to the public. Things like intimidation, coercion, and assassination were common practices. Well into their final year at the academy, Eliandril and Tessa were part of a group tasked with interrogating a group of villagers with apparent ties to a radical religious order. Upon arrival, however, the villagers were found to be simple practicing monks. Nonetheless, the group carried out the interrogation as ordered. It quickly turned into a mass slaughter of innocent people. The Foundation was forced to conceal the event from the public by casting powerful amnesia magic on the survivors and separating families, forcing them to live completely new lives unaware of their pasts. Eliandril could not bear the guilt that this event brought upon him and he never returned to the academy.   Given his position, leaving the Academy was considered treason, which forced him to leave Alvari entirely and start a new life. He took the name Eliander Fireborn and joined the Oscalan navy, where he was able to earn esteem as a soldier. For many years, he lived a lie as a citizen of Oscala, suppressing the past he was ashamed to confront.   After his service, Eliander settled in the town of Saltmarsh, where he took on the role of guard captain. He served in the position for 10 years before meeting the Wayward Warriors. At that time, he many times considered returning to Alvari, but his guilt and shame always kept him in Saltmarsh. It was not until he met the samurai Date Kurashiki and learned his story that Eliander could finally come to terms with his own past.
