Balasar
Description
Balasar is a Dragonborn sage from time's past. He is an expert on the multiverse and traveled to and from the various planes of existence on numerous occasions. He has extensive knowledge of the numerous "gate crossings" that populate the material plane and act as bridges to other worlds. At first glance, he appears as a well-traveled, elderly Dragonborn. While this is technically true, Balasar has been alive for more than 300 years. Through the magic of chronomancy, Balasar is able to continue residing in his mountain observatory, which is actually a pocket dimension crafted by his own magic. The dimension is suspended between the inner and outer planes and is contained completely within his observatory.Living in a Time Loop
Through the combined efforts of him and other members of the Arcanix Assembly, they crafted an altered Chronosphere which has a programmed rewind effect every tenday. The effect only affects organic material, while inanimate and inorganic material continues to "age". As a result, Balasar "relives" the same week repeatedly for eternity, or until he chooses to stop the Chronosphere. Though he is aware the rewind has taken place, he does not retain any of his memory from the previous week. To compensate, he leaves hundreds of hand-written notes scattered about his observatory as reminders of what he may have been studying or learning in previous weeks.Time-worn Adventurer
In his "younger" years, Balasar was an adventurer in the then-independent lands of Osyra. His travels eventually brought him to the Arcane City of Veraskali, where he began to study under the Archmages of the Asus Academy. His fascination with the multiverse and desire for discovery eventually led him to the Eastern lands of Askara, namely the Hyfane Dominion. Though an outsider, Balasar quickly earned the goodwill of Hyfane's citizens, and under High King Toril Ragmiir (Agder's father), Balasar was invited to join the Arcanix Assembly. For the following 120 years, Balasar and his colleagues brought vast improvements to Hyfane's arcane infrastructure and educated many young minds on the proper use of their magic abilities. When the Spellplague hit, the Assembly remained steadfast in their pursuits, despite the now dangerously unpredictable nature of magic. Through careful practice and diligence, the Arcanix Assembly was among the first organizations to discover and properly utilize the new forms of magic, Chronoturgy, and Graviturgy. These early discoveries are what have allowed Hyfane to have the now advanced forms of that magic, namely the Gravispheres that power the nation's airships and Balasar's Chronosphere.
