Dominate Dragon

This ritual is used to create Orbs of Dragon Dominance and can only be performed on a dragon egg before it has hatched.

Execution

A dragon's egg close to hatching is brought to a high priest in a special chamber. This chamber is in a special, secure facility, isolated from the rest of civilization because of the potential of attracting a wild, grown dragon to the ritual site from the use of an Orb of Dragonkind, which is central to the function of the ritual. Typically, you would need an orb of matching color to the dragon egg associated. Most domesticated dragons have been bred to have an approximately equal mix of all potential colors so that any nearby orb can suffice for the ritual. Arcane mechanisms have been built into the room to automate nearly the entire process.
The dragon egg is placed on a pedestal in the center of the room, and the Orb of Dragonkind is set into a slot on the floor underneath the pedestal and activated. The power from the orb is then siphoned into conduits in the floor and walls and redirected to the egg above it. This causes the egg to hatch early without complication if it would have naturally hatched within 12 hours. Power coalesces into the eggshells and compresses them into a pearl-like orb, which becomes the orb by which the dragon is controlled through.

Participants

Any clergy of Dragon rank is needed to officiate and perform the ritual, while the presence of a clergyman from Ordis' sect is only necessary for the repairs of the mechanisms of the room.

Lasting Effects

Since the soul of the dragon is trapped inside the orb created from the ritual from birth, the longer a dragon remains under the influence of an orb, the worse their mental health is stunted. By age, a dragon can be a full-grown adult but will still have the mental age of a newborn if they were not able to exercise thought.

Twinning

Due to some people's - desires - the hatchling may actually be half-humanoid. In this case, the spell will still cast but what would originally be one half-dragon instead becomes a humanoid and a dragon hatching from the egg at the same time. This effect is called 'Twinning.' Most of the time, both dragon and humanoid are perfectly healthy after hatching from the ritual. However, it becomes impossible to create an Orb of Dragon Dominance from the eggshells, and it will be the humanoid who will have direct, psychic control over the dragon as if they had such an orb.
A few - eccentric - nobles will have an heir or two come from such a process, thinking it will make their bloodline that much stronger. Otherwise, they either adopt the humanoid child as a family member and indoctrinate them to view their dragon half as a slave or kill the humanoid baby and figure something out with the dragon.
However, the humanoid must exercise any direct control early and persistently as the dragon half can actually perform the psychic link as well. So it is entirely possible for a dragon to have a perfect human slave after being born 'Twinned.' Most often, any twinned dragon usually develops a sibling relationship with its humanoid counterpart, which is fitting as they are, for all intents and purposes, siblings by blood despite being completely different races.
