Essentially having been a rouge by birthright, Verona grew up watching out for herself and trusting almost no one. The bitterness and hatred and pain that permeated through Onryx  and its people gave her a very cynical outlook on life and reality at large. While she could have possibly risen through the ranks of Onryx's criminals due to her extensive history of banditry (among other things) she opted not to try to do so, knowing it would only paint a target on her back. She's not good at making friends, and it shows. She'd rather blend in with the crowd and be forgotten and safe than be important to anyone, or anything... Or, that's what she tells herself.
