Necromancy

Still considered taboo in Fairlight , necromancy is the art of raising the dead; it’s no easy task, no matter what you’re attempting to resurrect, be it a plucked flower or a dessicated elephant. One of the reasons why is because, when it comes to necromancy, you’re not really meant to carry that magic through you, unless you were one of the very rare few to be born with it. Practical necromancy, or reanimation, as it’s colloquially called, is just that - bringing motion back to something that once had it, but no longer does, while preserving the body in its current state of decay. Usually, this is done through taking energy from something else living, and transferring that energy to the object of reanimation. It’s important to keep this energy separate from your own soul, or you’ll run the risk of “chipping” at your own energy, which can allow your soul to be siphoned out of your body. This is where wands or other inanimate conduits come in handy. Practical necromancy/reanimation is one of the processes used to create Zombies . Communicational necromancy, or spiritspeaking, is also just as it sounds; reaching beyond the veil between the living and the dead in order to communicate with those who have passed. Oftentimes, communicational necromancy is performed in a group setting, to avoid getting lost beyond the veil, but more accomplished necromancers can do it well enough on their own, if they know what they’re doing. Summoning necromancy, or conjuration, is mostly a short-term form of necromancy, in which a necromancer will pull a soul, or several, from beyond the veil, and either deposit them into a body/vessel, or let them remain incorporeal. Legendary necromancers have been thought to be able to summon entire armies of the undead in centuries past. Vampiric necromancy, or soul-siphoning, is the use of necromancy to gradually strip a soul from its vessel, leaving said vessel essentially… empty, often permanently. This is another process used to create zombies, though it’s heavily frowned upon and generally considered terrible. Grandiose necromancy, known as resurrection, or even immortality, is nigh unachievable. Raising an individual from the dead, truly, and near permanently, with their soul intact, bends the laws of nature way too far. Many attempts have been made to complete grandiose necromancy, but none recorded have had success.
