Ghosts
Ghosts are disembodied spirits of the once-living; oftentimes, they aren’t fully aware of what or even who they are, repeating the cycles they normally would in day-to-day life; however, a part of necromancy can allow them to realize what they have become and make a choice - move past this plane to a new one completely unknown to us, or stay on and look after whatever they so choose. Sleeping ghosts are generally the spirits of those who died unexpectedly, or tragically while waking ghosts are generally spirits who knew death was coming and made the conscious effort to stay in this realm in a non-corporeal form. This is not always the case for either category of specters, but it’s a helpful distinction to make. Sleeping ghosts, for example, are usually not able to carry on conversations with the living. They seem aloof and lost because they are. Sleeping ghosts are more likely to (usually unintentionally) cause problems for the living, as they’re unaware of what they’re doing and under the impression that they are alive as always. Waking ghosts can be malicious as well, often earning them the title of poltergeist, but malicious waking ghosts aren’t so common anymore, as the magic to banish them has been all but perfected.
