Fetchling (FETCH-ling)

The Kajal or Fetchling are a subtype of humans that originated in northwestern Nabalia around Armand's Scar - a crack in the continental crust that forms a jagged, tempestuous gulf. Legends say Armand's Scar was left from some long-forgotten war, perhaps even the War of Souls , but what is certain is the unnatural presence of shadowy creatures in the region that raise from the waters and spirit travelers away. The first Kajal appeared there one day, bloodied, asking for refuge - a pale mirror of the locals, bleached of all colour and with strange abilities to manipulate darkness to their will.   Fetchling, as they're more commonly known, are not numerous away from the Scar - they're not known for having the largest families to begin with, and only full Fetchling couples or Fetchling-Human couples result in Fetchling children. As such, they remain a rarity outside of Nabalia. Their abilities, as well as their cultural similarities to base humans, has however given them the ability to establish small diasporas throughout the known world, with many nations intentionally trying to court Fetchlings into their service to develop them as spies or information brokers. They became infamous as part of the Nabalin Empire's secret police, and despite their low numbers remain as 'boogey-men' in the collective unconscious of most of those that faced Emperor Leonel 's ambitions.   Within the Kingdom of Mir, most Fetchlings descend from turncoats that joined the Alfanan exile as a way to get away from the Empire's oppressive military machine. , Fetchlings in Mir are almost exclusively found within the Crownlands, often adjacent or near the capital of Palestralla - for the crown wants to keep them close.
