Kolskegg

Kolskegg is a small village located in northwestern Coul.

Demographics

The inhabitants of Kolskegg are mainly human, but a small population of elves and dwarves, as well as a somewhat larger chunk of halflings, make their home in Kolskegg. Lots of people in Kolskegg are farmers or ranchers, but the village is large enough to support some few artisans such as tailors and smiths, as well as a small guard dedicated to keeping the people of Kolskegg safe from the many dangers that lurk in the northern, mostly untamed wilds of Coul.

Government

Kolskegg is too small for a large governmental body, but a mayor is elected to collect taxes, direct civil servants such as guards, act as an arbitrator in disputes, and keep Kolskegg running as smoothly as possible.

Industry & Trade

Most people are farmers, but there are a few smiths, tailors, barkeeps, guards, carpenters, potters, and other artisans in the village.

Infrastructure

The village more a less a chaotic mess of buildings connected together by a web of small dirt roads carved by hundreds of trips to and from the various buildings in Kolskegg each day. Most of the fields on which crops are grown are located away from the main bulk of the city, where houses and the occasional workshop are located.
Some few civil buildings have been constructed. The mayor has a small hall containing an office, lodgings, and a treasury. Granaries are placed near the hall to store grain that is often collected as taxes by the mayor, and a guardhouse is located adjacent to the mayor's hall.

Assets

There is a fair bit of grain piled up in the mayor's granaries, as well as a little bit of precious gold in the village treasury. Most of the villagers have at least a little value to their name, often just in the farming implements they use or the crops that they grow.

History

The first people started forming Kolskegg around 1170.

Geography

Kolskegg is situated on smooth grasslands with slight hills. There is a forest not far to the west, and another one a few miles east. Three hamlets are found near Kolskegg - Bellcross, Stonerest, and Basinmire.
