The Black Blessing

All humans are born with the Black Blessing. It was built by the Gods into every single person's genetics to keep them in check. With it, a person would be safe in ignorance. If removed in a forbidden ritual, the person would have the chance to unlock the secrets of sorcery, the dark arts that the Gods used to fight their fabled battles of legend. In addition, the victim would be visited by countless nightmares of horror, calling out to any who were weak of will. To those who remained in control of their senses, it was a powerful weapon against their enemies, despite it being shunned. Those with false bravado would be driven to the brink off insanity, most likely killed by their own hand or another's. The visions that became present also featured secret knowledge for those with the cunning to find it.
